So I don't think we're old so much as WISE! I really do think that. I like that But I find that even when a change is for the better, I still don't like it at first because it requires me to change how I do something or learn a new way. Eventually I grow to appreciate it, but at first, ughh . . .

I don't think the karma is that helpful. I much prefer a "thanks" or "like" button for individual posts -- but nothing at all is perfectly fine. Rally the thumbs up symbol (top right) is a like button

So handy to just "like" or "thumbs up" something if all you want to say is "I agree" or "this is well put" or whatever when you don't have anything more to add than just your agreement or admiration for a post. The karma I don't think gives as much info and can seem like a popularity contest or some such. No big deal either way -- just saying that of the two I prefer a "like" function and I don't care particularly if we get the karma back on the forum. I don't dislike it hugely, just don't find it that useful.

Karma got abused - on one forum someone obviously took a dislike to me so my score fell to -5, and I wasnt abusive or anything so I dont know why I was given that score. At least if it's not here it cant be abused.

We did have an issue with karma a few years ago and had a vote on whether to keep it or not - obviously we decided to keep it. However I dont think its something anyone will greatly miss.
Well finally found something better about the new upgrade - at least now you can put pics (as attachments) where you want in the post rather than just having one stuck at the bottom of the post. However it can be confusing as the insert image button only applies to hosted pics (as per photobucket/imageshack) You still have to use the add attachment button to use pics from your PC.

I found that confusing too the other day. I was trying to insert the pics where I wanted them but of course they wouldn't as I don't use Image hosting sites. At least you can attach 3 images now instead of only one.

Another confusing thing (well it confused me anyhow but it doesnt take much!) is the messages. Instead of showing each message you get on the message home page, it puts all the replies to a particular message in a 'conversation' so you only see the original message and have to click on that to see if anyone has replied. Crikey who came up with all this complicated stuff? Everything was so much simpler and more logical in the old version. It wouldn't be so bad if they sent everyone an email with instructions on how to work all the new stuff. I think I'll go have a look at the proboards forum to see if the general consensus of the new upgrade is negative.

Totally agree Claire I hate the messaging system!
And I hate the way the page floats up, makes my eyes go funny.
Moan moan!

More moans from me! Thought I'd try the new search facility as the old one was pretty hopeless. Thought they must have improved that at least - but no if anything its even worse than the old one. You can't even seem to specify whether the search word is in the title rather than body of message and there seems to be no exact word search either. I tried to search for 'heavy horses' and got every thread with horses in it which was about 90% of them! Maybe there's an advanced search option somewhere but if so I've yet to find it. Sorry Rosie and everyone who hates the new smilies, I've tried to find the old ones but have had no luck. Will keep searching. If I can't find them I'll see if I can change them to a different set at least cos these new ones are awful. I miss the rolling eyes and the wink. The only one I like is the red faced angry one.

Nice to see the old smilie rosie! What is sad is that they have taken all the old smilies from the old posts and replaced them with the new ones too so its sort of spoilt some of the old posts in a way.
Well never thought I'd say this but have found 1 improvement in the new upgrade. Its a lot easier to add a link with a specific name (rather than just cutting and pasting the url) before you had to fiddle with code, now its just a couple of boxes. Can't say its enough of an improvement to make up for everything they have mucked up tho!

Hi folks, I have finally managed to get into proboards support account to try and sort out the issue of the members only boards. Frankly not holding out a huge amount of hope as one of the answers I had was completely wrong. Annoyingly I also had a problem trying to log into the forum today. I got a message saying I was already logged in on a global account whatever the hell that is and that I had to log in again with my email address (used same password), I did so and it went back to the log in screen and I had to log in again with the normal user name and password. I don't know if this is something to do with me being an admin or what but if anyone else has the same message and is unable to log in try doing what I did and you may be able to get in. Does anyone know if you can port an entire forum to a new forum provider....

Yes they asked me for mine too. I suppose they want to know you are over 13, which is the age you are supposed to before you can legally have an account in the USA.

So what's up with the preview button then? Doesn't appear to be working.

So what's up with the preview button then? Doesn't appear to be working. It does work after a fashion but its another thing that they have managed to muck up. It doesn't come up in a separate box like it used to, it just shows what you have written in the same box which unless you are quoting someone or adding pics is not much use. Also I've noticed if you do add links to pics then press the preview the pics don't show up unless you press the BBCode button then press the Preview button again - so this might be the case with other things it doesn't show up too. Proboards should get a medal for worst ever upgrade - they managed to turn something that was easy and pleasurable to use into a complete mess. There's hardly a thing thats simple any more. Even something like changing the colour of the text has gone ridiculously complicated - you used to just click on the colour you want now you get a bloomin rainbow to choose from - why would you want a choice of 1000s of colours...? Would have been better if they had kept the old version for the people who liked an easy life and just let the nerds sign up to the new one.

Well the preview thing is rubbish then if that's all it does! And what is this BBCode anyway? Don't get what that is for either.
As far as I can see the only benefits I've come across are attaching 3 photos at once and being able to navigate to your computer for an avatar. Oh and the ULR link thing is better. But that is all as far as I'm concerned. The rest is pants!

(html a sort of programming language used on internet and BB code is a version of it used on forums.) Maybe we should have start a list of all the rubbish things on the new upgrade and I'll post it on that useless support forum to show that people really DONT like it despite their propoganda. My top 5 bugbears: 1. Problems with password protected section 2. Horrible new message system - still haven't completely worked that out! 3. Grotty new smilies 4. Everything you do has 2 or 3 links to press when you used to just press one 5. Admin section is way more complicated Heck its hard to stop at 5!

Think I'd better stop there not sure what that smiley is supposed to be.... As for html I'm just learning that, doing my head in lol

Hey Rosie as much as we hate the new smileys, I think the one you used really summed things up! Claire do you think they take any notice of the feedback, this group mustn't be the only ones complaining?

Claire do you think they take any notice of the feedback, this group mustn't be the only ones complaining? Lol thats the only new smilie I like. Well Brumby not sure if I've mentioned this on here on just in a PM to rosie but the proboards support forum has actually started up a board called 'Praise' for V5 (the upgrade's official name) why do this if they weren't worried? Total propaganda as I don't know a single person who likes the new version and yet strangely there are no complaints on there. I'm sure its just the proboards staff signing in under different names and making posts saying its great! (Its bloody useless going there for help too as I went on to find some assistance with the password problem and was told patently the wrong thing.)
