The horse I had most of my riding lessons on, Domino, had been a jouster in his youth. He was a hunter type but his sire was cross Clydesdale/Irish draught, which his hammer head and extensive white markings betrayed a bit.
He was a perfect gentleman and about as bombproof as a horse can be. Although he loved people he was very particular about what equine company he kept.
I can't help but think these horses start a bit young, but then I am old fashioned.

Seems to be a 'sport' that is getting more popular, funny how our 'civilised' world is now leaning towards the medieval - a time of great cruelty and violence! There are little groups that do it here, but most of what I know about it comes from the PT book A Job With Horses, which is an interesting background read, as she goes to work for such a group.

Well we do have something similar to that at some of our castles. Nothing like as slick and polished and professional as that, but then again we do actually have real 1000 year old castles.

It's billed as family friendly, so I doubt it's 'real' jousting, just a show of some sort probably. That's partly why I was curious if anyone had been, to see what it really was.

I went to one about ten years ago at Lulworth Castle. It was a show rather than a "real" joust, and was very entertaining- great horsemanship on display.
