Thanks Mysteryarab nice to see you on here again! Rosie thanks for asking. It hasn't been bleeding again (I think that was cat chewing it!) its settled down again but it looks like it might possibly split and ulcerate in a few weeks. I'm just doing a waiting tactic as i obviously want to put off another op as long as poss. The only good thing is its a lot smaller than the other one was so the skin isn't as stretched and stressed. But if it gets much bigger then I think it will be a prob. I was just chillin out after all the stress and thinking that i could go on holiday now the cat had recovered and didnt need wounds dressing and the like - and now this happens! Bloomin animals!

Sadly op no. 2 is on the cards for Rosie. The lump has suddenly got a lot bigger and is starting to ulcerate. I know from the last one that they don't heal up when they get to that stage so the op is inevitable. She had some more bloods and they were fine so the poor mite will be back in the next week or two. She 'only' has 3 tumours to remove this time. Keep evrything crossed for me and Rose that is as successful as last time.

Aww, poor Rosie. That is so soon after the last one, but hopefully she will bounce back again in no time. Maybe this will be it for a while!

Maybe this will be it for a while! I certainly hope so, not only for the stress it puts me and the cat thru but also for the sake of my finances! Thanks folks x

Hi folks, Rosie is back home after her op! Am worn out with the stress. What was thought to be a relatively simple operation ended up as a serious one when they found some internal tumours as well as the ones near the skin, and they had to remove a huge amount of tissue. She's got a massive wound. She's been in overnight on a drip. Just came home this morning. She is poorly and sore but she did manage to eat a plate of chicken as soon as she got in! Am totally drained and so will my finances be when I pay the bill - just under £1000!!!

Oh, geez, poor little girl. I hope they were able to get all of the internal tumors!! Very glad she was ready for her chicken, though, since it shows she's undaunted by it all.

She's had another couple of small platefuls since then. Takes a lot to put her off her food!

It's so hard to deal with these lumps whether they are cancerous or benign once they open up you are in trouble - I lost my last cat that way - I was so sad as she was a rescued feral and I had wanted her to have a long old age.
She had already been attacked by a pack of hounds in my garden and had a broken pelvis, and it took me months to get her used to being an indoor cat after being totally feral for years, and then the wretched lumps came.
What a tough little girl Rosie is - fingers crossed this is the last time and she will recover quickly.

Yes kunuma it was so sad that you lost your little feral girl after you'd rescued her and won her confidence. These lumps are a menace.
Not had a good night with Rosie. She seems to be in a lot of discomfort and can't settle down and her wound keeps seeping. She has to go in this morning for another checkup so I'll see what the vet says then.

Poor Rosie....hope the vet can do something for her today! She sounds like a real survivor though, and that counts for an awful lot....they hang in there when the wimps would have given up long ago.

I'm taking her in to vets every morning now for an injection of extra painkiller as she is in such discomfort. Trouble is the wound is so huge she can't get in a comfortable position to sleep. The top and bottom of wound are starting to heal up but the middle bit is still very sticky and seeping. Its gonna take a while for her to recover from it. And me!

Good news for a change. Rosie has had her first purr since the operation and has also sharpened her claws on the bedroom carpet - hopefully she's getting back to her old self at last!

Poor Rosie and poor (literally) Claire! Its heart wrenching when our animal companions are unwell, its times like this you wish they could talk and tell you how you can help. Rosie is lucky to have you Claire, glad to hear there are some signs of improvement, I agree she is one tough cookie. One of my greys is going in for a dental on Wednesday, I will be feeling ill all day

Other people's animals are rarely boring Claire, and let's face it, just about every horse person is a cat person too! And We ALL have had our pet' and vets issues over the years! Just glad Rosie is doing well and hope it continues for yonks with no more vet trips!

Hi folks sorry I haven't been around much lately or organised any quizzes, etc. Still having a lot of probs with Rosie and back and forth to vet a few times a week. She's got about 3/4 of the stitches out but one area is just not healing and is still retaining fluid. Also part of the area where the stitches were removed has separated to leave a gaping hole, not sure if they took the stitches out too early or what. Vets were hoping it would close up on its own but it seems to be getting worse and it was bleeding last night. Think I'll have to take her in to get a staple put in it. Don't know how long this is going to continue for. Has anyone else had this problem with one of their animals with a surgical wound that wouldn't heal or does anyone know anything about it?

Well as you know Claire, I am in the last, last, last resort camp when it comes to ops, but I have had to have a few with them over the years. Yes, I've had problems with stitches - the last bitch I had to have spayed (medical reasons not convenience reasons I hasten to add!)had terrible trouble with the stitches, she was allergic to the inside ones and I found that out when serum started leaking through the outside ones) at the time I was told and thought (ha, ha) that this was very unusual, however I soon found out otherwise! It did make the whole thing drag out but we got there in the end, I've also had problems with infections from them. Sounds like they were hoping the skin would granulate and cover the hole - which sometimes it can do - but sometimes the skin needs to be 'helped' once it gets past a certain stage. Can remember having horrific healing problems with a horses pastern once, don't get me started on proud flesh!!
You'll get there in the end, but you will be a lot greyer!!

Back from vets and totally drained. She's got another hole now! I have to take her in tomorrow and leave her for a few hours while they have a good look at the wound and decide what to do. They even said they might have to do another operation! Which I dont want unless there is absolutely no alternative.

Are they thinking they will have to 'help' cut away some old skin in order to get the two edges to come together again? I'm sorry you are both going through this - fingers crossed they can sort it tomorrow.
