Hi all had an idea for this thread on the Black Beauty TV show discussion. What famous horses have you met, if any. Which ones from the past would you have loved to meet and are there any today you'd like to meet.
As I am a racing fan a lot for me would be racehorses, but most especially the amazing Red Rum, still get a lump in my throat when I see him win his 3rd National with 12 stone up! Lesser known, would have really loved to have met Lochsong, the top sprint mare as I followed her for years (funnily enough her trainer spawned my nemesis Clare Balding!) In showjumping would have loved to have met Ryans Son and Milton.

Oooh, there's a few I'd love to have met!!
Seabiscuit Shergar Aldaniti The Baron of Buchlyvie (famous Clydesdale stallion who was sold for Β£9,000 - in the 1930s!!)
I once rode a horse that appeared in the film "Jude", which starred Christopher Eccelston and Kate Winslet.
Can't think of many others, really.

I've not met any famous ones but I'd have liked to meet Copper and all the horses and ponies in the Follyfoot show And as a little girl Black Beauty was high on my list! In showjumping, it was Stroller and Milton. In racing, Dessert Orchid and now after reading about Brown Jack I would liked to have met him too.

Weather permitting, hoping to visit some of the racing yards on the Middleham open day next week and see the winner of the Grand National Neptune Collonges, maybe also the skewbald racehorse Angrove Rumbaba.

Oo jealous with Angrove Rumbaba Well I might not get to see him cos his yard is not in the same place as the other yards where we normally go. Depends what time we can drag ourselves out of bed how much we can fit in! But if I do see him I'll get some pix. Sooo jealous of Fizz seeing my heroes Red Rum and Lochsong and Dessie too! Don't get too many of the top racehorses up here as we've only got the one grade 1 racecourse, York. Tho we do have some really good trainers based up here.

I saw them all in the North. Used to go to York when I was a teen & Doncaster for the St Leger & sometimes used to buy a catalogue & "spectate" at the bloodstock sales there. Really interesting, I am surprised more horsey people don't do it. I learnt a lot about conformation & breeding this way.

Only been to York a couple of times and never to Doncaster races which was quite far away from where I lived in my race-going days. Mainly used to go to Thirsk and Redcar which are pretty low class (but a lot nearer)!

I met Desert Orchid when I was 13- I will dig out the photo, although I do have an atrocious haircut!
I've been close to lots of famous racehorses in the parade ring inc Frankel, Sea The Stars, Ouija Board, Well Chief and Kauto Star. I was there when Denman got bored of parading at Sandown and charged round the paddock- he was a big beast and the skid marks in the carefully manicured turf were immense!
In New Zealand I rode a horse who was used in Lord of the Rings.

I'll pass on getting my Mum to dig out photos but i met dessie too, years ago at a Bransby open day. I also met and stroked Milton when he re-opened our local tack shop (Throstle Nest) after it was done up, again many years ago now. He was in the indoor school meeting his fans whilst john signed posters in the shop...the school was by far the most packed haha.
