Yeah, they're hardly flattering for blokes, really! Well I was thinking more along the lines of them being hard to keep clean but erm yeah I know what you mean.... ;D

Well yeah... But they ARE very comfy compared to my other ones!! My black ones are so baggy they're more like a pair of tracksuit bottoms than jodhpurs!!

Well at least they'll come in useful if you ever do any showing

Haha, not likely! They'll be for being the Hunter this year, and doing any other ride-outs (which there WILL be a few of!). Also, I'll have to ride in the parades for another couple of years yet as a representative. I've also just got a second pair in the post - just in case! Attachments:

I do, yeah. I've only met her the once, but I'm sure I've seen her around town before. She owns a wee cafe in the town centre - in fact, we walk past it on the ride-out.

Well, after years of looking at Page 3, I'm now finally ON it! It was only a wee paragraph in the Midlothian Advertiser, but still!

Meant to say that, as part of being the Penicuik Hunter, I have to get riding lessons at a local school. This despite the fact that I was nominated for the simple reason that I can actually ride!
We have our assessment on Wednesday, which will be interesting as the riding school we're going to is a place I hate with a vengeance!!

Oh dear is it one of those snooty riding schools...? It's not. It's a fairly local place that I used to go to when I first started out. Basically, in one lesson I attempted to run over my instructor after she: A) Shouted and screamed at me and my mum for an hour; B) Smacked my horse across the chest with a riding crop; and C) Caused me to rattle delicate parts of my anatomy off the pommel of the saddle by grabbing my horse's bridle in mid-trot, making her stop quite suddenly. I don't think I had her for another lesson after that, but suffice to say she was a total ****!

Yikes! Well, hopefully since it is supposed to be an assessment, they will not interfere unless you seemed to be in real trouble!

Was just saying in another thread about a dreadful riding instructor I had as a kid - almost put me off riding. I can't stand anything like bullying, shouting or screaming in teaching - it just doesn't work. And I can say that from both perspectives having been both a pupil and tutor (tho not a riding one). Trouble is just cos these sort of people are horsy and have a school does not mean they are suited to teaching. Its a special skill.
Anyhow good luck with assessment. Hopefully it will go OK.

That's a bit cheeky, to pick someone who can ride and then make them have lessons, or is it a health and safety thing? Daren who are you going to ride in the parade??

Well the heroes should always have a white horse (I know, I know, grey!!) or a palomino one! I think the Hunter traditionally rides a grey. And, sadly, the riding school we get the horses from doesn't have any Clydesdales. Well, none that I'm aware of... My mate's been helping me prepare for my riding assessment by letting me have quick lessons on the lunge line with her Fell pony, Ringo. In the snow....!!
