Incredibly real looking - a true work of art and fitting monument
and at 24:44 on this Road Safety film the real thing, all too briefly, from 1955

Thats what I call a work of art! None of that modern art rubbish which we keep getting lumbered with nowadays. Must visit that if I'm in Liverpool. I especially like the pics of the statue with the real horses beside it. I used to love seeing the Vaux shires in the town when I lived in Sunderland as a kiddiewink.
Thanks for the link Tintin

Agree that is excellent and a fitting tribute to all the hard working horses from yesteryear. Thanks tintin

I'm always in 2 minds about the fact we no longer have working horses (apart from the odd few). On the one hand I would love to see them about the streets. As i said earlier, it always made my day to see the shires pulling the Vaux drays. And I often think how much nicer it would be to see my cobbled town square full of horses instead of cars and lorries. On the other hand, I know a lot of them were badly treated and over-worked.
What do other people think?

It would be lovely to see working horses about again but too many cars on the roads nowadays. A lot of them were really badly treated, hence Black Beauty and sadly some people still don't treat their horse well now! Horses pulling mail coaches etc. seemed to have the shortest life span in those days I think the amount of horse poo left behind would be an issue too Not like years ago when people would rush out with a shovel and scoop it up for the roses.
