scary, but I'd take it with a grain of salt.....it's on a food site, and those "foodie" people will eat anything...."Want some fried rat with brown sauce? Yes, please, we'd love to try that!"

Lol ;D I remember many years ago there actually was some sort of scare about finding rat in some of the KFC food! Not sure if this was real or just an urban myth. Not sure why I am getting emails from a foodie website tho?!!

I'm really relieved I've been a veggie for decades - though I do have to try not to think about what I give the cat. The dogs food I know is fine!I'm so horrified by the price of food in the supermarkets, whatever it is supposed to be, that I've taken to shopping in the petrol station for milk, coffee, crisps and flapjacks - works out cheaper, it's filling, and no queue to pay!!

lol Kunuma, your diet sounds just like mine (not to mention the avoidance of anything that avoids cooking...i'm here to shovel horse sh1t etc not be a domestic godess after all!) I'm a bit surprised by the amount of people up in arms in the media to be honest, i'm a veggie but i don't see why eating cow, pig etc is acceptable but horse a big no no..are they not all animals and part of a stable diet? Just my opinion ( and the gag potential is endless ) By the way Kunuma, as veggies we are not immune, need to watch out for the unicorn on the cob, not to mention the uniquorn for starters

Strangely enough and it surprises everyone who knows me I am a sort of domestic goddess type (when i put my mind to it) I can cook, bake, sew, knit, do flower arranging etc!!! Taught by my gran when I was small and its stuck with me. Its rather odd considering I've always been a tomboy.

erm, well, we're actually all animals (humans included), and in some societies eating humans is ok too (I wouldn't recommend a trip to the Amazon jungle without a gun). But most civilizations have chosen certain animals to be NOT FOOD....in most of the West, cats and dogs are off the menu, in parts of the East they are not.
England (and the US) are places where horses are NOT FOOD. To a Hindu, eating a cow would be equally revolting.

Claire, I am most impressed......I'm a terrible cook, can't keep a pot of mint alive and crochet with great difficulty (TWO needles to knit with? Forget it, one more than I can handle!)

Well I think domestic goddess is perhaps going too far. I certainly don't 'do' housework. I'm definitely the sort that brushes crumbs under the rug! My best ever tidying routine was when I had a 4 bedroom house. I had an entire spare room where I just shoved all the rubbish and stuff that was lying around! ;D
BTW susan knitting is easy, much easier than crotchet and you can even do it watching the TV.

Susan I totally agree with what you say about eating animals. In our culture cows, sheep and pig, etc are bred specifically for food whereas horses, dogs and cats are considered pets/even members of the family. Its not surprising that people who aren't veggies but who have animals are shocked. Plus its also the fact that something got into the food that shouldn't be there which has given people the willies.
Re. cannibalism - isn't there a disease people can get from eating human flesh?

Actually I still have one of those rooms but as I only have 2 bedrooms now it has to also serve as an office and spare bedroom. I pity the people who have to sleep in there amongst all the mess!

What's the opposite to a domestic goddess? That would be me! As far as I am concerned, kitchens are for drying dogs and rearing puppies in! I didn't even own a cooker for about 25 years, now I have a little one that sits on the table, but tbh I only use it to keep the biscuits in!! Don't have a sofa any more, but when I did, there were always saddles on the back - and bridles on the door handles!! The only things I sewed up were rips in rugs and plaits in manes!!

I'm not sure why they thought Shetlands would need cardies as they have just about the thickest coats around - designed to live in the chilly regions of the Shetland Isles for heavens sake! I must say they were laid back Shelties - most of the ones I've known would have had your hand off if you'd try to dress them up in a cardy

When I first read this, I took it to mean you got other things at the grocery store at least sometimes, kunuma, but Claire put a whole different spin on it by suggesting that is the bulk of your diet. Now I feel I should send you some daily multivitamin pills!

The horsemeat scandal is back in the British news today - this time it has been found in meat products like ready-made lasagne. After the BSE/'Mad Cow Disease' scare a few years ago, the food industry promised us that there were strict regulations in place, we could be sure that meat was safe, from a traceable source etc, etc - evidently not, if they can't even be sure what the meat IS, never mind where it has come from I'm stocking up on vegetarian meals tomorrow...
