Caroline Akrill or JPT sounds good to me

Caroline Akrill might be a good choice. We have discussed a lot of JPT books elsewhere on the forum and also read a lot of her books in the reading circle. Don't think we've ever done an Akrill book (tho we did do a short story from a magazine not long ago by her)
Dont forget we also need USA authors and more modern writers to give a good mix.

Sweet Running Filly by Pat Johnson and Barbara van Tuyl might be a good group read....especially for those who like racing and mysteries (and girl/horse rescue stories).
edited to say....hmmm....you wanted author of the month though. It's going to be a bit tough coming up with a US author who has numerous books available in the UK/Australia.

Canadian author Mary Ellen Lang Collura did a great book published as Winners and as Jordy.. it had UK printings, so should be easy to find

All the very popular USA authors such as Mary O'Hara, Walter Farley, Marguerite Henry have lots of books available over here as well as the teen authors Bonnie Bryant and Lauren Brooke (tho I don't think anyone will choose them as author of the month) plus some of the newer American authors are reasonably easy to find over hear. There's also Jean Slaughter Doty, William Corbin and Jane McIlvaine who are quite well read here - tho we have already done books by the 2 former in the reading group.

Have we ever done a Mary Treadgold? I think most of her books are easy to find, at least in paperback.

Hi all, just to let you know have decided our next author of the month will be Caroline Akrill. I am actually not to going to start it until the beginning of March as I didnt get KMP started until a week into January which is why we are still on with that one - and also I want to get a bit more organised this time. If we can choose the reading circle book before then I can get everything ready this time. So if anyone has any suggestions please post. I thought maybe Flying Changes as its quite different from her usual books, about dressage which is also fairly unusual and I also think it will be a good talking point book. Anyway as always your input is appreciated!

Flying changes sounds good as the showing books can be pricy if people are buying especially. The evting trilogy is excellent otherwise and pb's cheap.

Sounds good -- I like Akrill a lot. Claire, an idea -- maybe create a subforum/folder in this section for each author? Right now we've only had one so it's no prob, but later it might be useful. Just a suggestion.
And actually, I wonder if two months per author might not be a bad idea, anyway, to give more time for reading and discussion of the author's work. And we could pace out the quizzes/fun stuff to one a week, or something like that.

I'll see if I can add a sub board within a sub board ;D Actually I thought everyone would just post everything in the author of the month thread - I didnt envisage anyone starting separate KMP threads - silly me!

I've got the Eventing trilogy and don't mind reading them again. They were excellent I have read Flying Changes and might be able to do that one from memory...I think!

I've read all of her fiction, so hopefully I can do from memory....I re-read eventing trilogy not long ago, so probably won't do it again. Pity the showing trilogy is so horribly expensive!

This will make me do the re-reading of Eventing Trilogy I have been promising myself for so long. Re-reading Flying Changes would be a bridge too far...

The Silver Bridle is a great read but I did do a review of it a while ago so it might be better to do one of the others. The eventing trilogy is more enjoyable than Flying Changes but it does entail reading 3 books not one! But if people prefer that one let me know and I'll set it up.

I'd be happy to read the 3 eventing books if others don't mind that. Or even just the first one From what I remember Flying changes was a bit grim in places....

Rosie is right as its a trilogy we could just read one - I am now kicking myself for not thinking of that one

Hmm for me the trilogy is more like 1 book split into 3 than 3 separate stories. I don't think you get the full effect if you just read the first one. I know Flying Changes is a bit grim but it would certainly throw up some discussion points. I'll go with whichever one of the two people prefer so if there are any other people with a preferance let me know soon.

I've started reading the eventing trilogy as I fancy reading it again anyway, I can still join in with the Flying changes discussion if that one is picked

Either Flying Changes or the Eventing books would be great with me, though if we do Eventing I agree it would make more sense to do the entire trilogy. But no big deal whichever one we choose -- I'm in, regardless.

Well if people have time to read the full trilogy we'll do Eventing, as more people seem to have that book. I'll give a bit extra than the usual 2 weeks. I really think its worth doing the full trilogy as the last book is very important to the story and the main character.

Glad I've started reading them, as with my speed at reading I might have finished them by the time we are ready to start

I think although it's three books not one it's so enjoyable it will flow and be quicker (time permitting) than reading Flying changes for me as i struggled with that one the first time whereas eventers has that can't put down ness about it. It's also a much easier read to digest, especially if speed read

I read it not long ago for haffy's mastermind questions so I'll just quickly speed read and make a few notes if theres anything I want to discuss. Maybe I'll do Flying Changes as the review book. I must say I found it as easy to read as her other stuff - altho a lot darker.

Anyone else stayed at Caroline's hotel, Plas Maenan, near Conwy? It's great, very reasonably priced with superb food. What's more you can read the books that are difficult to get hold of while you're there, together with lots of other books on a wide range of subjects. Definitely not one to miss if you're in North Wales and Caroline is lovely.

Hi finnsarah, welcome I haven't stayed there but it sounds brilliant I'm half way through the last Eventing book now and agree with those that said you need to read the entire series and not just the first book.
