She's worth every penny! She's friendly and just seeing her waddling around the garden has brought us so much joy over the years. Anyway, I've been a vegetarian for 30 years and I've never eaten poultry, but I imagine she'd be pretty tough going. urrgh- I just had a flash of someone killing her; she's such a pet with the biggest personality. Think I'll go and give her a cuddle (and check her stitches) and see if I can scrape up some of her favourite food- cheese pasta.

I have two cats:- Pickle, my 10 year old male:- Tigger, my 5 (nearly 6) year old female:- Both my 2 cats are FIV + (FIV is the equivalent of AIDS in us). They came from the local Cats Protection, and not many people take the FIV cats in sadly. There are 5 currently in the shelter, which is approx 1/5th of the cats in total. Jack, my male who got put to sleep in August this year, another FIV + cat. This is Topsy, who lives in my parents house, and I consider part mine, since I am the one that has to do the defleaing and deworming.

LOVE your cat pics Garej! They are all gorgeous. Sorry Cally I have a nasty sense of humour sometimes. I keep getting wrong off my brother for mentioning batter when he is showing me his fish but I am really the softest squidgiest marshmallow when it comes to animals. You are the only person I know with a duck for a pet altho I know a few who have had hens. I didnt realise they lived that long. Give her a cuddle from me too, she may forgive me then ;D

Don't worry Cally - she threatened to eat my fish too (her brother has my sympathy!!) ;D When the stray cat moved into my 'loft' I had to make wire tops for the fish tanks, because I thought she would try and eat them - but she won't eat fish of any sort no matter what it is disguised as! I've often wondered where the "cats eat fish and drink mik" idea came from in the first place - bearing in mind their dislike of water and the fact that milk is not a suitable foood for adult animals!!

I cant remember threatening to eat your fish kunuma! I see I am going to get a reputation as some sort of Hannibal Lecter figure who goes round scrumping up people's pets with fava beans and a nice chianti My cats actually DO like fish and milk altho they rarely get milk as I know its not that good for them. But then again they do have strange eating habits. Rosie likes Chilli heatwave Doritos and Oscar loves coffee flavoured cake icing.

My cats actually DO like fish and milk altho they rarely get milk as I know its not that good for them. Tigger doesnt eat fish, but will eat fish variety Felix. Pickle I havent tried because he (like my old male) has kidney problems, and them having any treats is not good for him. But knowing what a greedy monster he is, he will eat anything! (Which is good because last Monday I wormed, for the first time, and nobody knew what he was like, because he was not done at the shelter - he was done at the vets. Fortunately me crushing his tablets into a powder and disguising them in meat worked because he thought that he was getting an extra dinner! Also I defleaed him at the same time, and he didnt bother about that, simply because there was food in front of him) Both Tigger and Pickle like cat milk, though Tigger wont touch the Felix variety for some reason. Cat milk is fine as a treat, it's ordinary cows milk that causes problems.

Topsy looks like my beautiful cat Finn, garej. He's 2 years old and from the RSPCA. In fact, of the 8 pets we have, the only one we got commercially was our chook, the rest are rescues or give aways.
I forgive you Claire, and she is looking 5 years younger since the surgery and that was less than a week ago!

gorgeous cats do they have to be on medication for fiv? I've never heard of it before. I hope your duck is doing well cally. We made a sad discovery today, our hamster must have died last night or this morning. It's extra sad as we had only had him for 3 months and he seemed to be in perfect health. I hate this part of having animals- it's so sad.

gorgeous cats do they have to be on medication for fiv? I've never heard of it before. FIV is the equivalent of AIDS in us. Basically a cat has a poorer immune system than compared to normal cats. As far as treatment goes, all you have to do is keep them indoors all the time (there are two reasons why. Firstly, because the virus is spread through blood and saliva, if they fight - the virus is spread most commonly through unneutered males fighting - they can pass it onto other cats. That is why it is important to neuter your cats! Secondly, if they go where other cats have been, they can pick up bugs which a non FIV cat can easily fight off, but they cant.). Also they must be rehomed with FIV positive cats only - to avoid spreading the virus. No rescue centre worth their salt should allow FIV positive cats to go where there is non FIV cats on the premises. There is some doubt as whether FIV cats can actually be rehomed together - apparently I am the only person who has actually got two FIV positive cats to live happily together, other people have tried but unfortunately they have had to bring them back because they were not getting on. However with me I think a lot of it is do with Tigger herself - she originally came from a home where they rescued 15 cats and kittens. This was from a notorious housing estate - about 5 years ago it was on the National news because there was tons of riots. A lot of people there don't bother looking after their cats properly, and even fewer dont bother to get them neutered. As far as medication goes, because the FIV virus can make them prone to having other complaints, sometimes they can be on medication, but sometimes they are not. Neither of mine are on medication, and the male I lost in August was not either. Pickle has a blocked tear duct on one of his eyes, all he needs is a daily wiping of his eye with a tissue, other than that they just need worming and defleaing on a regular basis (even though they are indoors only, they still need defleaing and deworming, since they can still catch worms and fleas. When I got Tigger (the tortie and white) she had tons of scabs - she had a flea allergy because her previous owner didnt think she needed defleaing. In the nearly a year since I had her, her flea allergy has not come back. This is due to me actually defleaing her). Anyway, that turned out to be a long post. If there is anything you need to know, feel free to ask.

We tried to keep a rooster, but he was obsessed with picking fights with my partner Phil; he (Phil) would be washing the dishes and the rooster would be jumping up and down under the kitchen window trying to get at him, and he'd run up and attack him when he went outside. Finally we gave him to the RSPCA after he attacked my 4 year old, scratching his talons all the way down his back. He ended up rehomed to a chook sanctuary out in the country! Yours is v.handsome though!

Hmmm - I had the same problem with my dog and my ex - in the battle for my affection one was just so much more fun to be with than the other. So I did rehome him and he settled happily, though I never visited! The remaining contender spent 14 happy years with me, and was the best dog I ever had! ;D ;D

Actually, one of the reasons I knew my partner was the right man for me was he had a lovely, intelligent white shepherd X and almost 17 years later we're still together. We're onto dog no.2 now, and she's lovely but a complete idiot; the 1st one, Pup, honestly had a sense of humour, and he was gay- he had a springer spaniel boyfriend at one point but his 'parents' didn't approve.

I've found a camera phone that doesn't cost an arm and a leg, maybe next pay I'll buy it and send a pic of him. He's quite used to me flashing flashbulbs in his eyes now!

My Peter, I loved that Piggie so much, the poor little devil had to pee on me to get me to put him down, or I would carry him around like a doll or day. Attachments:

Ducks and guinea pigs, how lovely! Haffy is that a blue Swedish duck!! I love the pool! Did you hatch them out or get them as adults? I had a pair of piggies for 8 years, and recently lost one of the sisters, I tried to be hard hearted and keep her on her own, otherwise of course you have to keep replacing one and end up with piggies for ever - but in the end I weakened and got a new baby one, unlike the dogs, this was a success right from the start, the old girl decided she had given birth to a big baby! I hadn't realised how quiet the old one had got on her own until I had the baby, now they are so noisy!! Always squeaking and making that lovely chirrupy sound! Funny looking pair though, one black and white and fluffy, the other one smooth coated and honey coloured!

The drake is a white campbell x magpie ( i think thats what she said he's blue too) and she's not sure which ones the eggs come off so it's Mother is either a White Campbell, a Khaki or a Magpie as she all of them free ranging the garden. The white one is pure as her friend breeds them and she hatches some to run with hers. We bought them wednesday night, wanted to make sure we had girlies rather than pot luck.

;D you have Designer Ducks!! Are they going to be in egg production? I am sadly allergic to hen's eggs and have often wondered if I could eat duck eggs OK, but have never kept ducks. You'll have to post me an egg to try! ;D

I'd love to see some piccies of your piggies Kunuma, if it's possible Well, as I'm still using a camera with a film in, I will try and take a couple, but when Truprint put them on a C D for me, they come out so huge I can't transfer them very well - each one comes out nearly 2 Mgs! Will try although not sure how to make them pose, or even hold still come to that! ;D
