Well done Haffyfan - I can't find my copy (yet - i always live in hope)!
I have one more (busy) week at school but could think of some questions after that for Claire's general knowledge round.

I had lots of fun though only had a general idea for a few of them, plus lots I had no clue about!
The question about the Lynn Avery book was something that really had me trawling the deep, dark recesses of my memory for some vague notion of what the book had been about. I think that was a really obscure one, unless it had a reprinting/resurgence I know nothing about!
It was great to have all the questions at once and be able to zip right through them. Say, are the Black Beauty's family books any good? They have never appealed to me because I don't generally enjoy seeing characters/stories taken up by non-original authors, but sometimes it CAN work. Are they worth looking into?

I haven't read that series but I absolutely hated Son of Black Beauty by Phyllis Briggs.

Altho I don't love them as much as the PTs more traditional stories, I think the Black Beauty's Family books are pretty good - even tho I'm not usually a big fan of the 'pony point of view' book these were done quite well and they had a good range of backgrounds and historical periods so they weren't just a re-hash of the Black Beauty story. Son of BB by Phyllis Briggs is a bit of a dud! I think tintin did a review of it a while back...? Going back to the comp, this is probably the hardest general knowledge round I've done for all the Mastermind competitions so far so don't worry if you feel like you haven't done that well. If you know all the answers to these you really are a mastermind!!!

You can have until end of Saturday to send in round 1 answers.
Thanks to all who have sent me answers. I'm going to have a marking session tonight so will post evryone's points and positions so far when I have done so.
Also if you couldn't answer question 26 please check the questions thread again as I made an error on the wording of the question - dont think it will make much difference but do double check just in case.

Thanks for the heads up Claire....I've filled in all the stuff I know, a few wild guesses for stuff I absolutely don't know, and am just working on the questions I FEEL like I know, but which are lurking on the edges of my memory.....those are the ones I kick myself over when All Is Revealed.

I am the strongest competitor - holding all the others up!
Congrats to all especially Haffy
I love the Black Beauty's family series. They are very varied and not at all derivative. Lovely illustrations. Some very sad bits and some very heart warming bits. Well written.
I did not care for "Son of black Beauty" either (it was me who reviewed it) but these books are in a different class

I can't believe I did that well......my guesses were all wrong and I don't think I've ever read a donkey/mule book, so that was three answers shot at once!
When are you posting the answers...dying to know what they are?!

Ugh, battening down the hatches (almost literally) in anticipation of Hurricane Sandy. If I go incommunicado during Round 2, that's why. Hopefully it won't be as bad as predicted!

And, as usual, kicking myself over things I should have know....I have (and have read) both Dark Horse and Sweet Rock, but didn't remember the details (obviously).
And I'm off to do some hatch battening myself....the East Coast of the US is seriously not going to be the place to be in the coming week. They're warning of massive power outages that might take days to resolve, so you may well not hear from rallycairn or I for a while if it hits as predicted.....supposed to begin Monday, though rally (who is further south than I) might be getting it tomorrow?) and blow for a couple of days.
First on to-do list, charge the ereaders!

I hope it misses you and rallycairn susan! I'm glad to see I am in a "challenging position" lol. I'm amazed at how close we all are this year too.

Oh dear I hope someone has a copy - can't even buy a cheap one from Amazon or ebay as its seemed to have gone suddenly rare!

I'm a bit shocked....I checked last night for copies and couldn't believe how scarce it suddenly was! Pity Evans never did the anniversary reprint that the'd originally planned on....I'm pretty sure Ribbons and Rings was one of the titles they had in the works.

Claire, I'm sure I have somewhere, only trouble will be actually getting to a PO to post it - as running backwards and forwards in the other direction at the mo! Will find it and wrap it tonight in hopes of getting it to you.

Pity Evans never did the anniversary reprint that the'd originally planned on....I'm pretty sure Ribbons and Rings was one of the titles they had in the works. Yeah was shocked too, especially as, being a bookseller, I'm usually pretty on the ball with prices/rarity. The paperback was only selling for a couple of quid a year or so back. There is supposed to be a 2008 Evans reprint but I have never actually seen it or come across it so maybe its mythical! Kunuma if you could lend me your copy that would be fantastic as Fizz really needs her to swot up on. But if you can't get to the post office then I'll just have to borrow Fizz's and do her questions last minute. Sorry Fizz, its frustrating as I do have a copy somewhere but it could be anywhere.
