Hi all, if anyone would like to take part in the 3rd pony book 'Mastermind' competition please can you put your names down. If we have enough people interested I will organise it for October, which is when we have had them previously. If you haven't taken part before, the competition is one round of horse and pony book general knowledge, then a second round of specialist subject which you can choose. Just as with the real Mastermind. (The specialist subject can be anything - as long as the quiz master [aka me] can get access to the books in question. The narrower the field, the harder the questions will be. Eg. if your specialist subject is just one book the questions will be harder than if it was a particular series or author's work.) The comp is fairly free and easy. No prizes but the winner gets the title of PONY BOOK MASTERMIND to display on the forum No need to choose your specialist subjects yet, I just need some names to see if there is enough interest to warrant organising it again this year. Hopefully we'll have enough names as we've had a lot of fun with it the last couple of years.

Glad there are a few of you wanting to take part. I'd like to be 'over the other side of the fence' and take part myself, not that I would win! (I know you lot did a revenge Mastermind a couple of years back for me which was great fun but its not quite the same as taking part with everyone else) I hope that our past champions, haffy and garej will take part and try and retain or regain their 'crowns' - and where are the boys? C'mon you lads we need some male competition here too! Anyone who's thinking of taking part but worried that they don't know much pony story general knowledge, don't let that put you off, as not only do I add some very easy questions in the general knowledge round so everyone gets a few points on it, its also possible to get a good score if you really know your stuff on the specialist subject. Re. specialist subjects, if you also have a 2nd and 3rd choice just in case I can't get hold of the required books to set questions (or I can't rope someone else in to do the questions for it). Anyway plenty of time to think it over, just let me know in the next couple of weeks.

Can we chose just one book for our specialst subject? Didn't mysteryarab do that last time with Black Beauty? I was thinking of doing War Horse.

A few people have just done the one book in previous years. Its easier for me! The only thing to remember is that the questions will necessarily be harder if you choose a single book than if you had chosen say an author's full body of work - just to even things out for everyone. Also more than one person can choose the same subject - thats also been done before - and once again its less work for the mod!

Well!! I was going to let Claire off having to read the entire Saddle Club Series, but us ancient biddies have to be humoured - so now I'm thinking of adding the Pine Hollow series to my speciality as well!

Now now kunuma, you started the 'old' thing off if you remember. People in glass houses, etc, etc. ;D I think I only have 1 saddle club book so I suppose I could do all the questions from that one - and you wouldn't know which it is - so you'd have to read the entire series just in case hehehe ;D Alternatively you could choose a different specialist subject

When do we need to decide on our specialist subject?. Let's say a couple of weeks from now - say by the 7th October - hopefully that will give you all time to think of something. Then we can start the competition a couple of weeks after that. However this is not set in the stone so that latecomers can still join in!

Can I pick a series and miss out two of them??? There's always one isn't there.....? ;D If you dont want to do whole series why not just pick out one of the books in the series and concentrate on that? Well anyhow just PM me with what you are thinking about and I'll see what I can do.

What's best for you Claire? A bunch off books or just one. It doesn't make a huge amount of difference to me. Its just a matter of whether I have access to the books!

Hi all just a quick reminder - can we try and have most of the specialist subjects decided by the end of the week if possible so I can get started with the research and questions. Don't worry if you haven't thought of one by then as the general knowledge round is fist. Biut if I have most of them sorted soon it will be a bit easier for me.
