Hahaha, if I did, I would. And if I get six numbers on the lottery tonight, I will!

He looks lovely...do you ever ride anything other than heavies?

While I do actively seek out heavy horses, I have ridden quite a few smaller ones in the past... I had a shot of an Arab back in January. That was WEIRD (to me, anyway) - like sitting on a razorblade! A friend let me have a shot of her Fell pony earlier this year, too, and I had a shot of a couple of cobby types and an ex-SJ Thoroughbred last year. And, waaaay back when I first started out, I had a hack on an Icelandic for about two hours in the hills just down the road!

Went for a ride on a Highland pony this morning, doing walk, trot and canter, followed by a 60min hack around the farm on Prince.
Great fun! Pity I forgot my bloody camera, as some of the views from the hill were fantastic!

Last time I cantered (on purpose), I fell off! Well, that's not quite true. I cantered, then I galloped, and THEN I fell off, otherwise I was going through/over the fence!!!
Prince is a nice big chap - except when he decides that his new pal Daren has a secondary role as a scratching post...!

The most interesting part of the ride was when Prince decided he was going to try and get into a delivery van...!

Horse-napping. Last seen with four big hairy feet hanging out the back of his car...

Wow- I wish I could trust Star enough to take a photo from his back. I'm not sure if I told you guys about my accident May 2012- Star bolted as per usual and I hurt my back. I had a CT scan for my heart/lung issues in December and it turns out I have a congenital deformity of my spine- not major, 2 vertebra are squashed- but it turns out one of them was fractured! So ta again, Star. Hardly ridden at all- too many health problems. I'm so sick of being sick I'm tempted some days to just jump on Star without a helmet and just let him rip. He's taken to napping now too, the sod. 24 Years old and he's like a 4 year old: will do some arena work with a martingale and a flash on him. If that doesn't work then it's bye bye to his comfy french link eggbutt snaffle and on to something else, nyah ha ha...

I seem to have missed those last two photos Daren. Looked like a great ride anyway Sorry to hear you are having so many health problems Callie. Hope Star behaves himself next time you ride him!

Hi Callie nice to 'see' you again. Yes I remember you telling me about the bolting incident, not sure if it was on here or in an email. I know how you feel, having tried to start riding again myself a year or so ago and having had to give up due to being in too much pain. (May give it another go this summer, yep I'm a masochist) Who would have thought when we were reading our pony stories back in the day that we would end up too decreipt to ride the bloomin things!

Hi Callie, Bolting is no fun!! Have you tried different bits - it's pretty hard to hold a horse back that really wants to go in a snaffle. I used to find with my Arabs that they all hated snaffles anyway - with little mouths and a high head carriage, the snaffle would raise their heads too much and they didn't like the nutcracker action either. So my hotheads were usually ridden in a pelham on two reins, or the more laid back would have a kimblewick on one rein. I did the same too my back falling off a flippin horse (NOT one of mine!!) you have my sympathy!

I've never ridden in a double bridle and 2 reins seems a bit much for trail riding. I'll look into a kimblewick. Others have suggested everything from a bitless bridle to a curb chain. The best solution would be to ride him more of course!
