A few of you asked for a dog-based quiz so here it is! Similar to the bird quiz, identify the dogs (and wild dogs) in the pics and match them with the pony books below them. The match may be a simple one such as that particular dog breed is featured in the book, or slightly more tenuous! Enjoy DOG BREEDS:1. POODLE - GAY AND THE PONIES (e)2. IRISH WOLFHOUND - THREE PONIES AND SHANNAN (d)3. WOLF - MOON IN THE RIVER BY VIAN SMITH (r)4. GREYHOUND - SWIFTLY (a)5. AUSTRALIAN CATTLE DOG - YAMBOORAH SERIES (h)6. GOLDEN COCKER SPANIEL - JACKIE WON A PONY (m)7. BOXER - RIDING FOR RIDGE ABBEY (j)8. KELPIE - NOBODY'S PONY BY BERYL BYE9. BORDER COLLIE - GAZE AT THE MOON (m)10. AIREDALE - THE JOKER AND JERRY (k)11. CAVALIER KING CHARLES SPANIEL - A PONY FOR JEAN (c)12. RED SETTER - RED JOKER (p)13. FOX TERRIER - THE GREEN FOX (o)14. MALTESE - THE MALTESE CAT (f)15. OTTERHOUND - A RUMOUR OF OTTERS (i)16. 17. BULL TERRIER - THE LION'S CROUCH (g)18. DINGO - TAM THE UNTAMED (l)BOOKS:a. SWIFTLY BY MICHAEL MAGUIRE GREYHOUNDb. NOBODY'S PONY BY BERYL BYE KELPIEc. Kelpie is correct (and I have absolutely fallen in love with Kelpies after seeing the film Red Dog) but actually a different dog goes with A Rumour of Otters and kelpie goes with a different book (sorry for being sneaky....well no I'm not really haha ) Anyhow unfortunately dont have a copy of A Rumour of Otters I can lend you. What 'torch stuff' is going on there - I assume its something to do with Olympics....?

Knowing just how sneaky you are though - ;D - it would be the otterhounds by any chance?? (15)

I must admit all these dogs have whetted my appetite for doing the cat and dog books website suggested a while back! Problem is I have to decide between doing that one or a Patricia Leitch one as I only have 1 web domain left (and only a limited number of hours in the day!) Well done so far everyone, there are some sneaky ones left tho!

hm....Jean has a spaniel for sure (Scamp?), it's pictured in the book, it's the one she takes from London to the country with her....it's a solid color too, not bi-colored or flea-bitten like you'd expect a Springer Spaniel. (I don't believe it's exact breed is ever stated...just "spaniel")
Oh well, moving on, to one of your other sneaky moves, 3 isn't a dog at all, it's a wolf and goes with Moon in the River by Vian Smith
CORRECT

Trying some lateral thinking now - if 14 is not a Bichon Frise pup which I thought it was at first , it might be a Maltese Terrier pup - in which case that might go with f the Maltese Cat??
CORRECT

I thought 14 was Bichon Frise too.....in a nice natural state, not the icky show-clip. Bet you're right about the Maltese though.....I kept wracking my brain and couldn't for the life of me remember a dog in that short story!

Oh well, moving on, to one of your other sneaky moves, 3 isn't a dog at all, it's a wolf and goes with Moon in the River by Vian Smith CORRECTWell this wasn't actually one of my sneaky moves as I did say it was dogs and wild dogs at the start Admittedly some of them are pretty sneaky. Apologies for the tardiness in updating - as it was the first nice day here for 6 weeks decided to take the day off and go for a long walk. Totally knackered now, off for a drink and a sit in garden with cat for half an hour then I'll update the opening post with all the latest answers.

I think 11. is a King Charles Spaniel? Close but it's the longer version which has a particularly important (in terms of the quiz!) extra word!

Still on a roll here - (no truth in the rumour that I only know stuff about dogs!! ) 16 is a Skye Terrier (flippin' weird critturs they are too!) so has to go with Ponies for Hire! See I'm getting this lateral thinking thing sorted now!
