Hi all, has anyone seen this film, especially our Aussie members as its an Australian film. Its based on the true story of a famous dog who won the hearts of a community and travelled the country looking for his master. Just watched this and really enjoyed it, the dog was gorgeous, it was funny, quirky and sad in places. A film that celebrates the canine spirit. (Altho be warned you do have to endure quite a few Australian blokes running around in their pants! ;D ) Its out on DVD now. More on the film here

I read this book when it first came out and loved it. Rowena and ZAne had the dvd and both were crying when I came in the room and as I like my films to be happy, I did not watch it. i do not remember the book being sad. Zane cried in Eight Below and he also cried in Hidalgo when he thought the horse would die. He got really mad in War Horse when the poor horse got tangled in the barbed wire and started jumping up an down so someone would DO something. He is five

Aw bless his heart! There were a couple of sad bits in the film but in the main it was quite upbeat and funny. And I loved the bits with 'red cat' in them. I didnt realise there was a book - must read it now!

Watched this last night - what a lovely, lovely film. OK I'm still choked up today but I'm glad I watched it. Gorgeous dog who out acted Lassie, real Australian feel to it, gut wrenchingly emotional without being sentimental, best dog film I've seen since K9. A million times better than the over rated Marley and Me! IMHO the South Australia Film Company (I think that is what it said - the end credits are little!) should take over from Disney - who have lost the plot - it reminded me of the early Disneys which I loved (eg the first Incredible Journey which was superb, whereas the later remake - didn't even bother to get the dog's breeds right! )

Glad you enjoyed the film kunuma it deserves to be better known in the UK (I'm guessing its pretty big in Australia) agree its much better than Disneys modern stuff. Such a fine line between emotional and over-sentimental and this film does it well. (Marley and Me definitely over-dosed on the over-sentimental)
