From what I've read of the book so far, it's an interesting read (but then, I like my "making of" stuff - especially JAWS!) I'm glad I'm not the only one who's been looking at the box office for the film... Budget: $66million Box office: $85,422,612

Book made me cry, stage show made me cry, trailor for the film made me cry. But the film didn't! It's excellent effects, stunning scenery and beautiful horses made it worth a trip to the cinema but on the whole I think I prefered the stage show. Well it's no good, I'm def leaving this one to everyone else, I've cried too much over real ones recently to have any desire to see anything with horses getting hurt in it! Please can our next film club be a fluffy bunny one with a happy ending! I think it was filmed near me somewhere too.

To be fair it could have been a lot worse and at least there was no gratuitous violence. But yes kunuma I think you are wise to keep away from it at the moment. Any one got any ideas for a fluffy bunny type film we can do next...?

Well, if my novel had been finished and optioned as a film, then it could have been that.... Anyway, in case anyone's interested, War Horse currently occupies the top spot at the UK box office....

Anyway, in case anyone's interested, War Horse currently occupies the top spot at the UK box office.... Thats brilliant for a horse film! (what interviewer was saying nobody wanted animal films any more.....? Egg on face for them methinks) I'd like to hear more about your novel some time daren. I know someone who is looking for good horse and pony novels. BTW kunuma we could do Silver Brumby film next - I know you have that one Might not be quite fluffy bunny territory but its fairly innocuous as far as I remember.

Daren I have sent you a PM. Don't let the others bully you ( ) into letting us read any of it unless you really want to tho, as I know a lot of writers prefer to keep their stuff private until published.

Well, I was going to try and break my record for seeing the same film at the cinema (King Kong - 5 times!), but I dunno if I'll manage that...

The one I've watched the most is Lord of the Rings but even so only seen them a couple of times each at cinema, prefer watching them on my home cinema surround sound thingy. Unfortunately the blasted thing has just konked out in the middle of a re-watch

The original King Kong? Must admit I could watch Blade Runner a few times given the chance! Nah, the 2005 remake (directed by Peter Jackson). My absolute record for film-watching is JAWS - and I literally have no idea how many times I have seen it! But it's on TV tonight, so guess what I'll be doing...

Yep, poor old Bruce! Spielberg really did a number on him, didn't he??
(Incidentally, the ending of the book is vastly different, but Spielberg reckoned his ending would be much better - he was right!)

I went to see it last night and thoroughly enjoyed it (and cried). Even OH said it 'wasn't bad' ;D I agree with those who said it was a bit sentimental, but I quite like sentimental things as I am a bit of a softie. The horses were lovely, and also the Devon countryside. A good family film for families with older children. Did anyone else think it was odd that nobody else helped Albert plough the field? All the neighbours knew the family were going to lose their farm it it didn't get ploughed but no-one offered to help, they just all sat around watching like it was some sort of sport. That didn't ring true for me. I will now go and read Daren's book excerpt! Thanks for sharing it with us Daren

OK decided to get ahead of the game on something I could do and watched SB, they are palominos!!!! I can understand silver brumbies being cremellos, or really pale palominos, but not top show quality ones, also I think I am going mad, as I'll swear Throwra was a lovely palomino MARE! ? Loved Russell and his cattle dog though!

Crikey I'll have to watch that again see if 'he' is a mare! Yeah pity about the pallys but then we are back to the old controversy about the silver brumby colour aren't we. Feel free to start a thread for Silver B kunuma or let me know if you want me to start one.

I've watched it! Liked all the Dartmoor farm bit - though really had to suspend disbelief to go along with a farmer's son who didn't know how to train a horse to harness!! Enjoyed playing spot the bit of Dartmoor, and wondering whether the cottage was a real one or a film built one,(decided on the latter!) Not sure why it was thought to be so amazing to have a horse come when it was called - doesn't everyone's?? I swear I was much more callous when I was younger, and used to be able to watch animals being hurt or dying in films and just say, oh it's OK they are only acting! Nowadays though, I can't seem to disassociate myself from it in the same way, knowing what did happen to horses and dogs in the wars,(and still does) I just found I didn't want to watch the rest. Do we get softer as we get older, or is it just that every animal you lose makes you that bit more sensitive ?? I don't know, but I didn't find the film itself upsetting, but what it represented, and that was very upsetting.

Well I did as well. I would never shed a tear at the most heart-rending film when I was a teenager but now I blub at the drop of a hat. I also think when its films based on reality the suffering of the animals is more upsetting as you know it has happened in real life. Glad you managed to watch it tho cos its not often a horsy film is as high profile.
