You can add photos or any other sorts of images to your post. Here's how to do it.
There are 2 ways to add pics:
ADDING A PIC BY USING AN ATTACHMENT
If you have a photo or other imaghe stored on your computer you can simply add it into your post as an attachment. This is the easiest way to add a pic, although the picture will have a little message beside it to say it is an attachment and a box around it, so it won't look as neat and tidy as the second option. It will appear on your post as a smallish thumb-nail but it can be enlarged by clicking on it.
Its very easy to add a pic this way. All you need to do is click on reply to start your post then look for the attachment section which is just below the subject line. Click on browse and then search your computer to find the picture you want to use. Make sure it is less than 1024k in size. (To check the size move the cursor over the picture click on the right mouse button and select 'properties' - you will see a list of properties including the size. If it is too big you will need to re-size it using a photo editing programme)
When you have found your desired pic double click on it and the file name should appear in the box beside where it says attachments. It will then be automatically added to your post.
WARNING: If you preview your post the attachment will be wiped off and you will have to add it again so do preview before you add attachment.
ADDING A PICTURE USING A HOSTING SERVICE
This is a more complicated and time consuming way to do things but it looks better when it is added this way. Also if the picture you want to add is not on your computer but from a website you must add it this way.
You need to use a picture hosting service to add the pic this way. The 2 most popular are probably PHOTOBUCKET and IMAGE SHACK. Photobucket is better if you want to add a lot of pictures or make complicated changes, but it is slow and cumbersome. Image Shack is ideal just for adding a single pic and is very easy to use, plus you don't even have to register. Also if you want to change the size of your pic before you add it to your post use Image Shack as it takes ages to do this on Photo Bucket!
a) USING IMAGE SHACK
PLEASE NOTE - as of 2014 imageshack only gives a 30 day free trial (it used to be completely free!) and then you have to buy a smallish subscription.
1) Go to imageshack.us/
2) A page will open with 2 options:'images/video' and 'url.' If the picture you want to use is on your computer make sure the 'images/video option' is selected. Click on 'browse' and search the computer for your desired pic. When you have found it double click on it.
3) Then decide what size you want it. If it is a photograph the best option is probably 640x480, if its an image or something like a picture of a book I would suggest 320x240. Anything too big will cause the thread to become mis-shapen and may slow it down. Anything smaller and no-one will be able to see it properly! If you think it is already the right size then you don't have to change anything on this menu - just leave it as it is.
4) Once thats done click on 'upload now' and wait for the next page to open. When it does fnd the section where it says 'links to share your image' and copy the line of text next to the 'forum code' option. The you simply paste this into your post where-ever you want the pic to be.
NB - If you want to add more pics then click on the 'media upload' option on the left hand side of the page and add as before.
If the picture you want to add is already on the internet (if it's from someone else's website please check you can use it for copyright reasons) then click on the 'url' option in step 2. Here you must add the url or web location of the picture you want to use. If you know it simply type it in the box. If you don't here is how to find out. Right click the mouse on the image you want to use and select 'view image info' - this opens a window which shows a list of web addresses. One should already be highlighted. Right click on that and select 'copy' then paste into the box. Then follow steps 2, 3 as before.
EDIT - as of 2012 you now have to register to use image shack, and log in each time you use it.
b) USING PHOTOBUCKET
This method is more complicated and slower than using Image Shack but if you want to make a number of changes or upload a lot of pics at once it may be preferable. For adding one or two pics quickly I would recommend you use Image Shack.
WARNING: Photobucket is constantly changing things so the steps here may be slightly different if you are using it a few months from when I last updated the info. If things are a lot different let me know so I can update these instructions.
1) Go to photobucket.com and register on the site. You can then upload (transfer) your pics to your own personal picture album.
2) Find the section which says 'upload now' and click on that. An new page opens. There you will see a grey icon with 'My computer' on it and a big green icon. The grey icon is set for uploading pics from your computer as default. However it has a drop down menu in which you can select other options such as uploading from your mobile phone, etc. We will assume you are using an image which is already on your PC. If you want to add an image from the internet see below.
3) Click on browse to find and then add your picture. (You can add more than one at once by using the CTRL button on your computer, or you can use the 'bulk uploader' facility by clicking on that option.)
4) Then click on the 'upload' button to add the pics into your Photobucket album. Click on 'save and continue to my album'
5) To find your pics select 'album' and there you will see your picture/s displayed. Hover your mouse over your desired pic and
you will see a number of options in a blue box and four white boxes beneath it. If you need to change the size of your pic now is the time to do it. If you don't need to change the size go straight to step 6. (Photos taken on digital cameras will often need to be made smaller or they will slow down the foum and make the thread go out of shape.) To resize click on the 'edit' option in the blue box. A new page with a number of size options appears. Select the one you want. (See the Image Shack instructions for tips on which size to select.) Once you have changed to to the correct size save it and go back to your album as before.
Unfortunately this is very slow so if you have to change size of pics I would recommend using Image Shack instead.
6) Again move your mouse over your pic and the various boxes will appear as before. The one you now need is the bottom white box which is entitled IMG code. Copy the info from that box by simply clicking on it. A little message saying 'copied' should pop up. Or you can highlight it and copy it as normal. Then all you have to do is paste this into your post on the forum.
If the picture you want to add is already on the internet (if it's from someone else's website please check you can use it for copyright reasons) go back to step 2 and select 'the web' from the drop down menu under 'my computer'. Then follow steps 4 to 6 as above
ADDING VIDEOS
Yes you can add animations and videos to your posts if you have a video on your computer you want to share with people. For both Image Shack and Photobucket just follow the instructions as for adding a picture. You shouldn't have to re-size anything.
