Pinching Claire's story idea in a fashion here...sorry to anyone not obsessed by these books as knowing the characters both Equine and human will be a huge advantage.
The annual Woodbury PC gymkhana was the high spot of the summer holidays. For several weeks the members had been schooling hard and had talked of little else with the excitement of The Tetrathlon and the Trek long behind them.
Practices for the Prince Phillip cup were still underway, of course, for team members but with several weeks until the zone finals even those lucky team members were more revved up by the upcoming gymkhana than their wembly hopes.
The schedule was varied and David hoped he's included a little something for everyone. After the rigours of taining for the Area Cup at easter and the Tetrathlon he also hoped it would be a more fun relaxed event for the ponies and riders. The schedule consisted of 2 show jumping classes: a Novice with no jump exceeding 2ft 6 and an open with no jump exceeding 3ft 3 to be judges over two rounds, the second being a standard jump off against the clock for any clears from the first round. A Best riding club horse or pony class which involved an individual show, riders choice, aiming to show the mounts suitably as a pony club all rounder and included the compulsory jumping of two fences not to exceed 2ft 6, a standard show jump and a more XC orientated brush style fence. The final two events David had thought long and hard about before deciding on a bending race using heats to work up to a final and finally a Gretna Green, this event involved the members getting into teams of two (one being the bride and one being the groom) with the aim being the groom had to collect their bride and mount them behind them and then race home. A strong and steady mount being a distinct advantage with the Prince Phillip specialists small ponies actually being at a disadvantage to the larger stronger and longer striding mounts of the non team members. It had been Julia's suggestion to stop the PPC team members dominating the gymkhana events and David thought it was just perfect.
The day of the Gymkhana arose bright and Sunny with stable yards around Woodbury and surrounding areas a hive of activity from first light. Ponies were bathed and plaited to perfection and tack shone so even Janet green would have had to give it a ten for inspection.
Sarah was not a happy bunny, back to riding Chess, after Sparklers departure, she moaned constantly how she didn't have a chance in the jumping classes and despite Mrs Rookes best efforts they had yet to seal a deal over the purchase of Sea King now Jennifer had given up riding in favour of her new craze, street dance. When the day of the Gymkhana rolled up with still no deal struck, Mrs Blacker stubbornly holding out for the price she paid and no other suitable pony found, Sarah was disgusted to only have Chess on whom to compete. She was not the unhappy camper that morning, Oliver Wheeler was also bemoaning the fact that non of his siblings would partner him in the Gretna Green race which he had realised was his only real chance of a rosette. He couldn't believe Lizzie would choose to partner her friend Lesley rather than him despite Lizzie's explanations of how the Gymkhana didn't really have any events that suited Stardust and since Mrs Rooke had decided Sarah was to jump her, as had more chance of getting her round, it left little else for Lesley to enter.
The atmosphere at Garland Farm, the venue as ever, was much tenser than usual as all the members secretly hoped they would outshine their friends. Of course there was also the bonus prize...a large silver cup for the competitor gaining the most points throughout the day, which everyone coveted. Whose mantelpiece would it be gracing?
Your puzzle is to work out the placings 1st to 4th for the 5 events and then work out which member will be taking home that silver cup. You may find the odd clue above and some more direct clues are posted below.

Here are your clues
* A Liver chestnut won the won open Jumping infront of the only horse in the class
* A bay pony came second in one of the jumping classes.
* The bending race was won by a kicker. Closely followed by it's riders sibling. In fact all placed riders were members of the Prince Phillip cup Squad.
* Sarah, to her disgust and to her Mothers delight, took home 3rd and 4th place rosettes whilst Lesley only managed a third, not won on Stardust.
* 4th place in the novice jumping was a round fit for a king save an unlucky hesitant first fence refusal in the jump off.
* the Novice jumping and the Gretna green were won by a grey pony
* A piebald took 3rd place in the novice jumping and was also placed in the bending race.
*Lizzie finished two places behind her sister in the Gretna green
* A connemara won one event and was 3rdin another
* A brown took it's second 2nd of the day in the Best Riding club horse/pony Class
*There was a surprising 4th place in the riding club class by a mare and her male rider. No one quite knew, including the rider himself, how they pulled it off!
*A skewbald pony and it's rider partnered the person in 2nd place in the open jumping to a 4th place in a gymkhana event.
* Brother and sister combinations took both first and second places in the Gretna green.
