I dont like American books as a rule, but I really enjoyed The Little Ballerina and her Dancing Horse by Gelsey Kirkland & Greg Lawrence.

I like Cammie's Choice and Challenge, Justin Morgan and Will I get there by candlelight but haven't read many American Authors otherwise.

I also like Gaudenzia, Pride of the Palio by Marguerite Henry, Mig O'the Moor by Nancy Caffrey, Jumping Jack by Patsey Gray, A Horse of Her Own by Selma Hudnut, and the Golden Stallion series by Rutherford Montgomery.

A Horse Called Mystery by the same lady who wrote Keep A Silver Dollar. Vikki And The Black Horse by Sam Savitt A Horse Of Her Own(I think that's the title) by Doris Gates Summer Horse by Jean Slaughter Doty. Ok, I really like everything by her, well almost everything. Flip by Weslet Dennis CW Anderson... take your pick on books, their all good. All of Marguerite Henry's books All of Dorothy Lynns books Now that I've searched my memory I have to go hunting for more....

Ah man... how could I forget Sky Rocket. I love this one. Sky Rocket by Margaret Cabell Self (This is one I would love to find a copy of) And the ones by Blanche Chenery Perrin...Born To Race and HUNDRED HORSE FARM. Love them.

Haffy, I hesitate to say it, as our tastes run either in synch or wildly out of synch, but I think you might enjoy Last Junior Year by Barbara Morgenroth, based on your liking of The Perfect Distance. Not terribly easy to find, but not impossible either.
