Hmm, I might have to check that one out. But what if you don't have a Kindle? Does it still work on a bog-standard lappy?

Its pretty good in some ways better than actual kindles as you get colour whereas on kindles its black and white. There is a link on my read for free web page (also other books you can read free on-line)

Thanks for these sarah - a nice big lot today. I've read the Richard Pitman racing books before and they are quite good, similar to Dick Francis.

I read At Risk by Kit Ehrman years ago, back when it came out. I remember it as being decent, but not up to the "Here is the Next Dick Francis" hype that the publishers were using. Still.....good to know they're out as ebooks (they're out in the US too), will definitely give him another try Off topic (for this thread), but the Lydon Stacey mysteries have been released as ebooks.....I found her first book, Cut Throat, which is a mystery in the showjumping world, to be really excellent. Here's a link to her website: www.lyndon-stacey.com/books/horse-thrillers

I like Lyndon Stacey - they are pretty good thrillers if you like the racing mystery genre. Thanks for the link susan.

I do like racing mysteries and loved much of Dick Francis' early work, so I'm fairly wary when people start slinging around that next DF stuff.
Most of Stacey's work is set in racing, but Cut Throat is show jumping.....I found I liked it even better than a racing thriller!

NB - if you have signed up to Amazon Prime you can also borrow certain books for free. However this has annoyingly mucked up the search parameters for free books as these titles are mixed in with the freebies I was wondering why it said "you can borrow this book". I am on Prime, so I can borrow the books. I wonder how long it has it for before it deletes it?

I don't know anything about the borrowing side of things as yet and I dont have Prime. There used to be a months free trial of Prime, so it may be worth people checking this out.

Well I downloaded a book which I think is borrow, and over a week later it hasnt deleted it. But so far I have yet to read it. I think it may be the case of it wont delete itself unless you have actually read the thing. I didnt pay for Prime either - I signed up to it when it was brand new, and there was a free year's trial. Several years later, they havent taken it off me, and I have not been asked for any money. ".

Thats a bonus garej! I did have a months trial of Prime a while back before you could use it to borrow books but they sadly took it off me at the end of the month when i wouldn't pay for it! I don't think it was worth it for the postage benefits as some of the stuff i ordered thru prime didnt come any quicker than normal Amazon delivery which is free! What format does the book you borrow come in garej? Is it different to a normal kindle download? If it comes the same way (in a normal mobi fomat in a file folder - then I can't see of any way it could expire as you could move the file to a different folder or burn it on a disc or memory stick. PS apologies I accidentally deleted a bit of your post by clicking on modify instead of quote

Further to the discussion about Amazon Prime and 'borrowing' kindle books for free, I've checked up on Amazon. It says there are 'no due dates' so I assume you can read the book whenever you like. Not sure why they call it borrowing then as it seems exactly the same as buying a free title. The 1 month free trial is still in place. More info on the link below: www.amazon.co.uk/gp/prime?ie=UTF8&ref_=footer_prime

Thanks Garej for adding these. That Mistress of Meg one sounds like it could be interesting and I like historical stories. And Queen Rider is definitely a must read if you haven't already.

Queen Rider is definitely a must read if you haven't already. I havent read Queen Rider, but already downloaded it. I found out that there's a free Kindle app for Android Smartphones and the bonus is that any books you have purchased already (or downloaded for free) can be downloaded onto your smart phone. I will probably read it that way even though the screen is smaller LOL. PS If there's a title which is free on Prime only and I have linked, let me know so I can edit it. Sadly Amazon doesnt distinguish it (at least for Prime customers it doesnt).

Yeah even if you are not on Prime it lists all the free Prime ones in with the others, altho it does at least distinguish between them. Still its not as easy or quick to find the free ones now.
