Here's a free book which I won't be downloading. It's advertised as having, "endearing artwork" - what do you think? What do you think about the text, especially the 2 verses shown beginning, "Henry went through all the little things..."?
I've missed this offer twice, because I've been too late, missing two posts on the forum. Today, The Quicksilver Horse by Anne Digby is FREE on kindle. I'm posting here as well as on a new thread to alert anyone who hasn't got it.
"Do you love horses and ponies? Do you like exciting stories and fascinating facts? Then you'll enjoy this collection of short stories and information. As you read, you'll race across the prairie with the Pony Express, discover the secret of taming an unrideable horse, share the rescue of white stallions from war-torn Europe and gallop to the aid of drowning sailors.
In between, you'll discover interesting facts about the Grand National, long distance rides, horses sayings, the Spanish Riding School, famous horses and the last wild horse.
Tried to get that last one which seems to have come OK, and the Young Horse Diary one - but it downloaded and then disappeared, obviously I got the DAIRY version and it melted in the heat!!
Thanks for posting them folks!
Rescuing one animal does not change the world, but the world surely changes for that one animal.
Dogs are our link to paradise. They don't know evil or jealousy or discontent. To sit with a dog on a hillside on a glorious afternoon is to be back in Eden, where doing nothing was not boring- it was peace ~
Thanks tamzin, could be interesting. I've done a bit of gambling on the races in my time and seen quite a few addicts. Couldn't happen to me tho as I'm too tight with my money! It will be interesting to see the American side of horse race betting as opposed to the British side.
You might want to think hard before downloading this one. A Review says:
"Un-Neigh-Borly Behavior by Cheryl Rhodes should come with a warning: Reader may crave chocolate when reading! The main character, DeeDee, seems to be obsessed with any desert and at a fundraiser, stocks up on homemade delights. Made my mouth water and think about baking some brownies!"
The plot sounds familiar. Does it ring a bell with anyone else?
"A Father’s Choice is a horse story about a young girl, Anna, whose father has made the choice to leave the family. Due to financial difficulties, the family loses their home and has been forced to live with relatives, making Anna’s life difficult.
Recently, they have come to stay at Anna’s grandparent’s home, where she discovers a horse. Immediately falling in love with the horse, Anna learns to continue her love for the people that she is angry with, like her father. Unfortunately, Anna is unable to raise enough money to purchase the horse, so when she moves away from her grandmother’s, she won’t be able to see the horse again."
It sounds as if it lacks imaginative creativity and is clinically following a formula, but it is FREE:
"This is the first entry into the Horses from Heaven series, a new series in kid’s fiction. It is a brilliant short story about girls and horses for kids, as it is an entertaining and enlightening read, especially for any child that is struggling to overcome an anger issue.
Short stories for kids in recent years have been created for a quick profit rather than to entertain and teach their readers. Often, these books treat children like fools, and assume they are incapable of handling deeper plots or anything less than a completely happy and innocent story. Luckily, this book is a one of the few short stories for children that attempts to both entertain, and instruct its readers in a deep manner."
Hi all just to let you know that Jane Ayres excellent book Transitions has been revised and republished as an ebook and re-named The Horse in My Heart. This is a great read for those who like a bit of depth in their stories. If you have only read her Mattie series however, this one is much more serious and darker in tone.
cally: Oh I see how this works now- don't press the return button, eejit. How do I start to write a pony book having read hundreds, and not accidentally or intentionally accidentally 'borrow' ideas?

aud: Can anyone tell me if they know of a Pony book that has a story line with A nesting Pair of Osprey Birds(thats as well as Ponies)i have been told it is either Alisons Island Adventure by Sheila Stewart or one of the Jinney books by patricha Leitch.
Dec 10, 2018 19:03:28 GMT 1
tali: One of the Jinny books has a sub story line of egg stealing so may be the one you are thinking of. It is one of the books that features the character Claire Burnley.

ginslinger: It is one of the early Jinny books. I only read the first few and I found the storyline upsetting.
