This section highlights pony e-books that are free to download. Authors regularly promote their books or series by offering one or more of their titles as a free e-book download from Amazon for a limited time. These can be uploaded to a kindle reader/tablet/PC. I'll try and regularly pinpoint these freebies on this thread and the Facebook page. I also have a section on the website itself which has links to many horse and pony books which are free to read on-line. readforfree.ponymadbooklovers.co.uk/

Well you can just read them from the page, you may have to zoom in a bit to increase the text size on some of them tho!

Another addition...just found out that Boys Life Magazine, (for 100 years the magazine of the American Boy Scouts) has put it's archive on-line for free. It did a number of horse stories back in the day, and you can search by pretty much anything..."horse" or an illustrator "Savitt" or an author "Patrick Lawson" or "Glen Balch" or by the award they did with a publisher "Dodd Mead" Patrick Lawson's The Star Crossed Stallion is on there, as is Ann Cottrel Free's Forever the Wild Mare, though I think both were abridged for the magazine....would give a taste of what they're like though, so you can decide "to own, or not to own" boyslife.org/wayback/

Been looking at the Boys Life site (thanks susan) and apart from those mentioned there are quite a few other horse stories, including one featuring Salto (from the book of same name) and his rider by J. Paul Loomis. The stories are not surprisingly aimed at boys and many are of a western persuasion so perhaps not of interest to everyone. I am going to add them to the read for free page soon but having a few technical issues at the mo.
In the meantime if you type 'horse' into the search box you can find the stories, tho its a bit of a slow process as you have to wade thru a lot of useless stuff. What is surprising is actually how much horse content there is in the mags, including a lot of factual stuff. It really highlights the difference between UK and USA attitudes to boys & horses, as similar publications over here are almost devoid of anything equine related.

I think the cowboy element helped make riding an acceptable hobby for boys here, even when the riding style WASN'T western/stock. Star Crossed Stallion is actually dressage!

You can get some of the latest horse and pony books for free on Amazon, as they are often on for a couple of days for free as a promotion. If you have a kindle then you can download to that, if not you can download a PC based version of kindle from hereIf you check Amazon every few days as the free titles keep changing, you will be able to get quite a few free books, and you might even find the start of a good series! I usually type in pony and horse in 'kindle store' then do a search price low to high. I'll try and update with what is free at the mo on a regular basis This one is free at the mo

I think your right about changing often as the other you posted doesn't appear to free anymore...mind historical is not really my thing anyhow.

I didn't realise you could get free e-books! Thanks for letting us know about this. I'm thinking of putting a kindle on my Christmas list now. Not really worth me downloading the PC version as I don't have a chance to get on the computer enough

Do the books that you download on to the Kindle for pc stay there for ever or only a few days?? How many can you download on to it before itis full? I've got a bit carried away, Dracula, Jane Eyre, Three Men in a Boat, Sherlock Holmes, Jane Austen - but no idea how I'll read them all as it takes me ages to read one post!

I think they stay as long as you have the application. If its anything like the actual kindle you can have hundreds of books. I'm just trying to work out now if you can transfer everything to another computer so I can put it on my netbook too. I know you can transfer it all to a 'proper' kindle. I've got loads on too, you get into a sort of feeding frenzy when you realize they are free

A Vamp in the Stalls!! ;D I have to read that - though after the Scorpio Races might be hoping it's a veggie vamp!! ;D Can't vouch for the quality of all this free stuff. I have been researching e-publishing and it seems pretty easy for just about anyone to write a book now and get it published as a kindle book so there's probably quite a lot of dross out there.
