I agree about the Jinny books Fizz they don't do it for me either. Not worst books, just not my cup of tea.
I'll get my coat...

I know who it is Aw i'm gutted that the books arn't good, they looked quite exciting from reviews etc, but maybe they are only about 14, which might annoy me. Infact, the chapter I read was talking about auditioning for a school, so that would be 11! Unless it was sixth form... ah well I will continue hunting for clues. I have an amazon voucher you see, and I don't know what to buy!

Ooh....Taking Flight looks really excellent.....the book depository has it too (good, because it isn't out in the US). I have a little Christmas book money left and that may be where it goes!

I have an amazon voucher you see, and I don't know what to buy! Have had a quick look at them to see if I could work out the age - when she arrives at the school she meets a boy who is 'three or four years older' and he calls her a 'first year'. They are weird books. Seem to start in England where she is competing at shows in order to be chosen for the honour of going to a special horsy school in America, where they are divided into groups which each study a horse sport!!! They have a barrel racing group, cross country group, dressage group etc. None of the groups like each other because of course they are studying different horse riding techniques!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! At this point I felt it was meant to be a fantasy book! Seriously, the saddle club books seem sensible in comparison! Needless to say I had actually gone off them in the first chapter when she sold her apparently much loved Connemara pony for £20,000 in order to pay the school fees, which her father then informed her were already paid so she could keep the money!

She sold her pony to go to school?! I know what i'd rather do haha. I guess first year would be 11 then. So she's 11 and she's dating a 14/15 yr old? ew. Oh god... it takes a pretty good writer to make fantasy and horses work together well. How is it fantasy? Is there a pegasus flying group too or something

I've been thinking and I have a few more to add....
Pony Thieves by Julia Cotter. I think this was written by the mother of someone who works for Fidra Books and I am sorry to say it is probably the only reason it ever got published as it was dull as ditchwater. Also dull was A Red Rosette by Geoffrey Lapage, Pony Trek by Hilda Boden and Easter the Showjumper by H. M. Peel. I could never get into the Cammie series either.

I think I would have long ago thown out any I really didn't like, although I still am nowhere near through re-reading all of my collection so might yet find some shockers. Claire, I am still loling at 'Jill and her Ponies by Jordan' in the link to the old thread. I would totally buy that if you wrote it ! ;D

Thought of a few more too. Grey Arrow, OK its not badly written but the characters get up my nose especially that arrogant bloke who spanks our heroine! The Margery series also irritates me for similar reasons, the main character Margery is a pain in the butt and as for Guy, he is insufferable. Worst Stabenfeldt book I have read is Sara and the Mystery of the Thoroughbred but I think that may have been due to a terrible translation. The others in the series aren't as bad. I have added poll but really I wish I'd allowed more than 10 votes as I found I needed about 15 so had to miss some stinkers off! EDIT - Sorry missed off A Day to Go Hunting and the Chill Valley series as ran out of room and they were on the bottom of my notepad list. If you want to vote for them just let me know on the thread itself and I'll add them in at the end.

10 votes were definatly not enough! Glad someone else didn't like the Diana Tuke either...and to think it was based on a true story...that poor nag!

Have to say a Day to Go Hunting would make it onto the worst list for me, I can't read it without my blood pressure rising!!

Strangely enough I've always loved Pony from fire! I didn't find it dark at all until I started coming on this site.

Well I liked the Georgie series which is on the hit list too. Mind you I could never find anything cheerful about Sheila Chapman's books!

I've got The Story of Heather and Heather the Second (May Wynne), both with dustwrappers. But they just seem boring really, apparently her school stories aren't very good either.

I thought Heather was not bad, even though I don't normally like that sort of story much. I also have a school story by her but have not got round to reading it yet so can't comment. I do know that she was one of the first woman to write science fiction! (Under pseudonym of Lester Lurgan)
In the last joblot of pony books I bought there was a copy of one of my all time non favourites - Grey Arrow by Catherine Carey. I really want to throttle the male character in this one!
