Wow your horses sound beautiful and you obviously know whats best for them! I'll admit to keeping mine in the stable, all rugged up atm! But he does go in the field in the mornings to get his daily fix. He is a arab though... and they tend to feel the cold.

Oh yes met a few of those! The only problem is if he isnt clipped he gets all sweaty when we compete, but then its hard to get rid off when indoor showjumping season finishes and the showing one starts. Minus points for that I think it would be great for him to have a natural life, but unfortuatly hes prone to laminitus so I have to keep him under close control, especialy as hes a houdini and excellent at escaping...

I took your advice- after a nice little workout (we did lots of jumping ) I hosed him down. Cant say he was too happy about it but after I had used the sweat scraper and brushed and rubbed him down he was quite content (Maybe cos I gave him some hayledge...) about it and his fur seems lots cleaner so this is definatly going to be come a regular thing! Thanks

Hi All....Or should that be G'day Mates?
Thought Id best introduce myself. Been pony mad and eating up the horse books since I was about 3. Learnt to ride on an old boy out in the bush until I went to TAFE to do equitation and breeding classes. I inherited my Dads Anglo Arab mare when I was 14 and we did some showing when she wasnt totally insane. I have bred 3 boys from her - Shakir, who is going to be 7 this year and sadly was caught in the birth canal and slightly brain damaged. When born he had no urge to suck or stand so needed lots of help...This has turned him into a 7 year old rogue. His full brother Magnus (otherwise known as The Magnetic Storm) is a year younger and had no such problems, he has been the partbred arabian National champion, stud show champion and east coast champion and their sire is SK Shakla Kahn.
Teshans last foal is a young man I have named Zayfir, who will be registered as 'Cresent Moon Zayfir' and is now 3 years old. He encompasses the bloodline of the great crabbet family of 'Silver' horses. I recently did his family tree tracing him back to the original (english) Silver Fire.
My mum has a purebred arab gelding named Silver Spirit and his parents are Amir El Shaklan and Windella Silver Sensation. He is Shakir's best mate as they both had birthing difficulties.
We also live with 8 (mostly rescued) cats, two (rescued) ducks, 2 (one rescued) dogs, 1 rescued pigeon and a rescued mynah bird. Oh, and a budgie and a common sparrow, also rescued.
I live with my husband Ken (well, soon to be husband, sue me) and my mum lives with us too in sydneys west on a small property.
Looking forward to lots of horse chat and Im pleased to meet you all!

A warning kleo: this site is addictive and will frustrate you because the UK guys have much better access to the great pony books!
Welcome from a Canberran. I am so envious of you having Amir El Shaklan bloodlines. You'll have to get onto the Horse & Pony chat section and tell us what you do with your horses (endurance?).
p.s Yay! another duck loving animal rescuer!

Hi Claire, I only consider Magnus to be posh - the others are a bit scrubby!
Hey Callie, Amir is not actually my favourite boy. I worked at fairview so I used to work with him a lot - he was a sweetie to be sure but SK was always my darlin.
As you can see, Im already hopelessly addicted! And I can see that the UK guys have a far greater acess than us to the important books - but dont forget we have a great second hand book market. Check out weekend markets and second hand bookstores - you never know what you'll find!
My duckies are pacific black ducks, one girl (who is one winged and worth about $400 in surgery!) and one boy I hatched from an egg. He was saved from a land clearing site.

Hi Kleo, I think that makes 3 arab owners on here. There's not really a finer line than the Crabbets, IMO. Your mob sound lovely.
Anyway, I second the warning about addictive sites. And book listings.

Hey snowfilly, I am in total agreement about the Crabbet line. Its my opinion that they are the most flexible and enjoyable of all the arab strains. Great to see others agree!

Hi, I live on Dartmoor, with my husband, four horses (well all ponies officially!), three dogs and various poultry! We own a feed merchants called Animal Crackers at Moretonhampstead. I love the MOnica Edwards books, especially the PUnchbowl series, and Josephone is my favourite P-T writer, although they're all good of course! When I was young, the silver brumby books were my favourites.

Hi,
I'm new from Australia. Lived in the UK until 5 years ago and brought my pony books with me to Oz. I've got most of the P-T books. I love Patricia Leitch, K M Peyton, Caroline Akrill (got all of hers including the Caroline trilogy) and Monica Dickens.
I had more books, but my parents stored some in the garage years ago when I was at uni, and they got leaked on, so I'm still wanting to replace some of those. My collection is pretty good though.
I was horse mad and horse-less until I got my first horse at 26. I've got 5 now and play polo on them. Carrot is my favourite pony, but don't let the others know.

Welcome carrot! Hmm parents should NOT be allowed near book collections. The number of parents who have chucked out, given to car boot sales or have in some other way decimated our precious pony books!!! Luckily most of mine were OK as my parents never threw anything away lol Lucky you having all those ponies!

Hello, I've just joined thanks to garej!
My name's Pam and I live in Wales. I have been collecting pony books for about 30 years and have run out of space to house them all! I love getting all the different covers of the same titles as well as those rare elusive books from the 50's and 60's. My favourite authors are the P-T sisters and the Ruby Ferguson Jill books (I have 8 versions of Jill's Gymkhana).
I used to have horses but time and money mean not at the moment. I have an elderly cat and a husband who doesn't mind my various collecting passions.
Looking forward to chatting to some like-minded people!
