I joined this ages ago but couldn't log in...won't bore you with the dettails....until now....but have been lurking on the forum for a long time. I am more of a forum lurker than poster anyway! I don't have a horse or any pets at the moment (unless you count my OH ;D ) but have about 600 pony books. My favourite auithors are The Pullein-T's, Patricia Leitch, Ruby Feguson and K.M. Peyton. I'm off now to have a look at the members only section which I have never been able to access before now

odonna - are you on Howrse yet - I warn you it is totally addictive, I thought it was a silly idea at first, and just logged in out of curiousity. Now I sit there with a calculator adding up stud fees and livery fees to see if I can afford another foal, and I am desperate for a Western saddle so I can do a barrel race with Haffyfan!!

Hi everyone, I am a new member. During the last two years I have been rereading and rebuying the pony books I enjoyed in my childhood. I mostly buy books printed before 1962 when a change of school resulted in homework and set books to read. As a child I did seem to judge books by their covers and preferred books illustrated by Anne Bullen, Lionel Edwards, Peter Biegel, Sheila Rose, Stanley Lloyd and Cecil Trew. I spent many hours copying these illustrations in an attempt to learn how to draw horses. My favourite authors were the P.T. sisters and Primrose Cumming. I never really liked the Pat Smythe novels, Kit Hunter novels and the Jill books. I do not have any horses now. As you can guess my horses and ponies all live in a china cabinet. I did have a horse in my late teens/ early twenties but I now have only three rescued cats as animal company. I have bought books on ebay from at least three other members. I have tried a few of the more modern pony books and will try some more as some seem to have better story lines than the older ones. I did like 'A Day to Go Hunting' but I recently bought a copy of 'We Rode To The Sea' which had been on ebay for ages. The book was in great condition but the story dreadful, almost identical to 'Ride by Night' All for now Beswickcollector

Hello and a very warm welcome to the forum.
I love Beswick horses. I only have one, but they are lovely. I am always tempted to buy them when I go to auctions to look for books! Do you have any pics of your collection? Would love to see them.

Hi all came across this when buying a horse on Howrse, yes another one with too much time spent on puter. I live in the West of Scotland and breed Shetlands (not to be reffered to as Shetties) I have 23 at the moment though I am trying to cutdown, they can be very addictive We show most weeks throughout the summer and if I ever find out how to do it I may bore you with piccies. I also have an Irish Cob which I show in traditional coloured classes. I love all pony books and am always on the lookout for old friends that I can introduce the grandchildren to.

Hi faldo and welcome to our forum. Its small but perfectly formed (a bit like your Shetland ponies!) Wow you have a lot, nearly as many as we lot have on howrse. Yes, piccies are a must! We all love seeing them and will not be bored. Nice to get someone from the howrse site we have started our own howrse section on the forum, especially for the more 'mature' howrse player! PS thanks for buying my little boy

Hey I randomly found this blog but thought it would be cool to join. I have been riding for ever! Well pretty much anyway, had quite a few ponies. At the moment I have a Arab called Oliver and I ride and school ponies owned and bought by a trainer. I have 2 labs and I used to have a terrier who was awsome, but I may be getting a new pup some time soon. I read when I have time, however with school work and things I dont always get the time I need... I read lots of pony books in my 'childhood' as in when I was at primary school, and I still have them all so I occasionaly like to reread them. So yeah thats me!

Hi mysteryarab and welcome. Nice to have a younger member on board as most of us are pretty much old farts! Which books do you like reading? Do you read any of the older ones like the Jill and Jackie series and the Pullein-Thompson sisters books? Or just the ones which have come out recently? BTW I like Arabs too

Well I love the Pullein-Thompson books, and Im serching around for some to order of ebay and other sites. I read a few chestnut hill books but they dont compare to the older ones. I much prefer them, I used to read lots of Enid Blyton (Third Malory Towers Book is very horse orientated), as my granny has loads of those types of books from when her kids were young, and they were a very horsey family so there is loads of old horse books there such as My Friend Flika. I loved The Little White Horse too. I used to be obsessed with the Sheltie books when I was like 5! I still have a huge collection somewhere... so yep any recomendations would be great as im going on holiday soon (although I have to read Mice and Men for school.. grr!) Possibly should put that on another thread though! And yay another Arab fan

Welcome from an Australian pony book fan and Arabian lover, and I suggest, if you haven't read them yet, the Jinny series by Patricia Leitch is great, especially for Arabian lovers. Her character of Shantih, the chestnut mare is pretty much spot on based on the chestnut Arabian mares I have encountered!

Hi there and welcome from your friendly moderator! I'm glad I've got a fellow Mary Gervaise supporter. They are always slagging her off on here but I like her! Well I think we now have 4 self confessed Mary G fans on the forum...we could almost start a fan club!

Well I think we now have 4 self confessed Mary G fans on the forum...we could almost start a fan club! Maybe we should do a review of one of her Georgie books? I like her Georgie books (I have yet to read her Belinda books but that is because I dont have any). They are not my favourites out of the ones that are on my bookshelf, but they arent as bad as some people make them out.

Hello newbies- another Australian- g'day. I think UK pony books are popular down here because the style of 'horse keeping' is so different. It's much more intensive- most horses aren't stabled, groomed every day etc. here as they live out. And we DON'T all love summer- heat, flies, heat... and what's with the constant tack cleaning? All that cleaning after every ride!
