Twilight seems to be taking over this forum! I liked both the films but I preferred new moon as I prefer the werewolves to the vamps and I like the Jacob character. Pity we all live so far apart we could all have had a girly night out at the cinema watching Eclipse ;D The big question is exmoorfan are you Team Edward or Team Jacob? ;D ;D ;D

Am I the only woman on the planet who does not really fancy Robert pattinson? James is the one who tries to kill Bella in the first book. Yep, he was pretty hot in the film version:

Nooo- I like the hair!! Yes purlease a twilight hot men thread, pant, pant! btw, I think RPatz looks like one of the romantic poets, I'll bet Coleridge looked just like that!! Plus of course he went along with the whole vampire thing too!

I have now watched Twilight - they did a good job on it! You can see the author had a lot of input, normally I don't like films where I have really liked the books as they mess with my mental images, but this one was OK! That baseball scene to the Muse track - brilliant! I was stunned to find out that Haffy's Rob is English!! Also that it was really him playing the piano in the film, and that two of the most beautiful tracks from the film were written, sung and played by him!! Hmmm, beginning to see where Haffy is coming from on this! But agree with Ros, James is ( er was) real eye candy!!

I picked up a box set of vampire diaries (only a fiver) in tesco yesterday whilst waiting for my car to have it's first MOT. Anyhows it seems, although the TV show is clearly on the back of twilights success, the books actually pre date Twilight by a long way and well lets just say I'm noticing one or two subtle(!) similarities shall we say. Now I know nothing about vampires bar what could be learned from Twilight, The littlest vampire and Count Duckula so it may be just they are 'normal' vampire things but we shall see as I read further...
Must say at this point Twilight is still winning hands down.

I watched a couple of episodes of the TV show which was pretty naff but not read the books. What similarities did you notice haffy? I''ve read a fair number of vampire books in my time (including the really old stuff by Bram Stoker and Sheridan le Fanu) and probably know most of the 'normal' vampire traits - if you can have such a thing! But I would say that the vamps in Twilight are fairly abnormal compared to the 'old school' vampires.

How about Batfink Kunuma??? ;D or you could reserach Luke Perry in the original Buffy film Okay Claire - similarties which I remember so far include * feeding from animals - although it seems they can also feed from humans without necessarily killing them or changing them * the changing process and burning although not as painful or intense it seems and can pewter out if it's not kept topped up in early stages I gather * Sunlight - they have a special stone or they would die (technical aren't I!) wheras Edwards just sparkles * Special powers - I agtehr they can read minds if they wish (like edward), can control weather (like one of the vistors in Braeking dawn could), control minds/emotions/thought trains/will their 'victims' to do as they wish etc (Jasper and some of the vistors but all had an appeal to humans) * Be Devastingly handsome/Beautiful - pale skin, dark bags under unusual eyes, I think I read references to cold skin but not so marked as Twilight * And of course the obsessive love story - Although Elena is stronger than Bella she's equally obsessed as is Stefan (and Damon) about her. The whole keeping away from her at the beginning is very Edward and Bella too. And he Saves her of course - then she saves him with a little help from friends where have I read that bit before in a different context oh yes and of course the bit how Damon wants Elena too - reminds me somewhat of the way James (initially and later .... his girlfriend ) wants to hunt Bella down * Her friend Bonnie (human) is descended from druids it seems and has visions etc (Alice anyone?) Probably loads more but thats what immediatly springs to mind. There a bit creepier than twilight as Damon is painted as quite a dark character and they like hanging out in grave yards too lol

There were quite a few fictional vampires before Dracula. I think the first one was The Vampyre by Polidori. Was the first Vampire on film Nosferatu? Hmm there do seem a lot of similar characteristics in the two series of books haffy and a lot of them are different to the 'normal' (lol) vampire traits. For example sunlight kills most of the vamps in the earlier vampire novels but not the modern ones, then you have the coffin, stake, turning into bats, smoke etc none of which appear in Twilght or Vamp Diaries. I think the first books which portrayed the change from human into vampire as really painful were the Anne Rice ones but it wasn't a burning sensation. Most of the earlier vamp books included feeding from animals altho it was not the preferred choice. Louis in the Anne Rice books used to feed from animals for many years. Vamps have been portrayed as sexually alluring since the earliest vampire lit so she hasnt nicked that from vamp diaries either Possible some of the stuff tho! Another trivia question - who was the famous fictional 19th century lesbian vampire?
