Six Ponies by Josephine Pullein-Thompson In case you have missed the other thread we are having a mega reading circle bonanza ;D in which we are reading all five books in the Noel and Henry Pony Club series, followed by the Woodbury Pony Club series. This should keep us out of mischief for a while! I think it will be quite interesting to compare the two series written quite a few years apart. For those of you who are not sure of order of the books here it is: NOEL & HENRYSIX PONIES PONY CLUB TEAM RADNEY RIDING CLUB ONE DAY EVENT PONY CLUB CAMP WOODBURYPONY CLUB CUP PONY CLUB CHALLENGE PONY CLUB TREK So if everyone wants to make a start although allow a few days before posting comments so that people who are getting spare copies etc can catch up. I will add the poll then too. One other thing it might also be interesting to note which edition you are reading. Having grown up with the Armada copy I was amazed at how much extra was in the first edition, including pictures. (There is a separate thread concerning the extra pics - will put a link to it when I find it, worth a look if you havent seen the first ed before) I will be reading the first edition of Six Ponies. Anyone who wants to join in but doesnt have a copy of the book please post here and we will try and arrange one for you.

Think I'm going to have to get a copy of the Fidra book as I'd like to read the 'missing' bits.

Wow have just finished reading the first edition for the first time and there is a HUGE amount of stuff not in the pb eds. Just shows how well I know the book cos I could even tell where there were extra sentences, let alone sections!
Won't go into any more detail yet until more people have read the book but would be interested to hear from anyone else who has read both pb and first edition.
But for everyone who has just the pb ed dont despair the story isn't spoilt at all by the revisions, the only thing you really miss out on is the extra pics.

Your in for a treat sarah, it really is like a whole new book. It also changed how I thought of one of the minor characters too, totally went against the picture I already had of them!

Did you mean Richard haffy? It goes into most of the characters a lot more deeply, but I think Richard's part is pruned quite drastically in the pb version. He's a bit of a twit in the pb but in the 1st edition there is more of a psychological insight into his personality and it has a much darker feel that he may be turning into a really nasty person.

No that bit is extra in the 1st edition, his and Jills ponies run amok in the town and he is rescued by Mrs Cresswell to his shame!

Um...is everyone else as shockingly far behind in their re-read as I am? Only about 1/3 of the way through. It's this time of year...I plan and start early, but no matter how on top of things I think I am, it all goes pear shaped somehow.

I have WinRar? Thats kinda the same; it opens up the zipped folders

Winrar opens .rar files but yes I think from when I used to have it, it also opened zip files. But winzip is easily downloadable from the net and is very useful so I would recommend everyone gets it. Actually it would probably be better to convert the scans into rar files but that would mean people downloading winrar too. EDIT - Sorry cant compress them even into a few smaller files. This is cos each page has been scanned as a jpeg and jpegs are hopeless for compressing as they are already compressed. Actually when I used winrar to try and compress them the file ended up bigger! So it will have to be the old snail mail I'm afraid. Mysteryarab will send you a disc if you PM me your address. Fiz and Trixiepony will send yours after Christmas hope thats OK. Oh almost forgot what I came on here for! Just wondering if enough people have finished 6 ponies to start the discussion. We are on to page 3 of the thread and havent even got to the book itself!!! ;D
