Well, after a lot of adding up and head scratching Beswickcollector is the winner, but I have a four way tie for second! So here's a tie breaker and the runner up gets a kitten! Whose collie, called Quest, went barging into someone's garden and picked a fight with the resident bull terrier??

Forgot to say, Beswickcollector, if you pm me your postal address I'll see if I can persuade the puppy to get in an envelope!

No more puppies for me thankyou. About three years ago I had to have my lovely white German Shepherd called Sally put to sleep. She was over 11 years old and her back legs had got very arthritic . She was on painkillers and glucosimine and they masked the condition but did not cure it. Shortly after she died I took in the 3 abandoned cats from next door to add to the one cat I already had. So no puppies for me I have enough pets!

I can imagine how much you miss her - that's my excuse for having several dogs - I'm terrified of being left dogless, and just after losing one, you feel you never want to have a dog again if it means going through that again. But don't panic - the puppy and kitten I had in mind were only three inches high- and don't need feeding!! Sadly not Beswick though!

It's hard to give a clue, as the book is such a classic that if I say anything it will give it away - but here goes, Quest's owner was fond of drawing - and rescued a star gazer called Air Frost.

I tend to think of it as a classic because I always feel it is probably one of the first of the pony book genre, which then took off like it did because of her children! But which of hers was actually the first one she wrote? I haven't read London Pride or We Met Our Cousins but always wanted to. Claire you did say you wanted a kitten - and this one will get on with Rosie and Oscar! (They will probably think it is a mouse! ;D)

Ooh I'm so excited to be getting a kitten and one that doesnt puke on the settee, wee in people's shoes and get cat hair everywhere! I love Joanna Cannan. Her books are so funny. You can see where Josephine got her humour from in her books cos they are quite similar. The first one she wrote kunuma was a pony for jean. My fav of them all is I Wrote a Pony Book.

Ooh thanks for the kitten kunuma. He is so cute and he is the best behaved kitten I have ever had. Rosie is going thru a broody phase and seems to have taken to him as you can see by the pics....

Glad he found his way there eventually! I think my nephew chose the right one as that one was more 'childsafe'! I sometimes wonder how any of us 'ancients' managed to make it to adulthood before everything was made so safe! A lifetime of playing with homemade toys, eating appetising snacks from the woods and hedgerows, climbing trees, (falling out of trees), playing in the river, (falling in the river and being plucked out by an annoyed angler!) being around every sort of animal there is - (and keeping most of them in my bedroom at some time or other!) Not to mention riding bareback with a halter and never wearing a hat!!

Know what you mean was just thinking about that the other day. Used to have ponies slobbering all over me all day and then would happily eat my sandwiches without even washing my hands of horse slobber! The first place I learned to ride the kids were stuck on a pony and shoved outside in the company of a teenage girl. No health and safety regs, no checking we had suitable clothing, or anything. Also I remember when me and my bruv were little we had a toy tigger which was a sort of foam rubber type material on a wire frame. I know it was a wire frame cos for years Tigger had a huge piece of sharp wire sticking out of his foot How did we all survive so long?

the twins will love it when they arrive. Have I missed something? beswickcollector are you preggers? As for all of us surviving so long it's a constant worry to me when I remember what I did as a kid incase mine do the same Iwas terrible for eating unknown berries and once I ate a whole pack of contraceptive pills then as a teenager I was always going to parties and hitching lifts. The worst thing was I don't think my mum knew the half of it - will have to be vigilant as mine get older!

No problems, Zoe, my daughter-in law is having twins on Dec2nd, I'm far too old myself!
I make sure my granddaughter has contact with my cats so hopefully she not be frightened of them or allergic to them when she is older. Her father was brought up without pets and he is allergic to everything.
Be prepared Zoe when your kids are older for laying in bed , pretending to be asleep but waiting for that click of the door when you know they are home, safe.
