Hi all, our next group read is the festively-titled The Christmas Pony by Wendy Douthwaite. This book is easy to find and low cost in the UK and USA. Discussion to start in around 10 days time, so you have time to ask Santa for the book! Apologies for not setting this up any sooner but have had a very busy time the last couple of weeks. In the UK you can still order items from the internet in time for Christmas as long as you pay by 18th (2nd class) or 20th (1st class). But discussion will remain open all through the post Christmas period so you can join in later if needs be.

I really like the Belinda Rapley series. I did a review of them a few years back. How organised would it be to have the Christmas book for next year picked out already lol!

That's quite nice with the book winging its way across the country to arrive just on the eve of Christmas in time for the big day! Very festive!

Hi all has anyone else read the book?
Very slight spoilers below...
Well I thought I had read it before but when I got a few pages in I realised it was not the book I thought it was - in that one a pony appears in the garden on Christmas morning. (Bonus points if anyone can identify that one lol). This was a nice heartwarming read, quite a traditional story: saving up for a pony, rescuing a pony from market etc. It had a bit of added depth with the subplot of our heroine Lindy having trouble adjusting to the death of her mother and introduction of a new stepmother. The heroine is quite feisty, I like the way she sneaks into the back of her dad's truck to get to market. Nice ending, there are a couple of little surprises in there. It's aimed at a youngish readership but I didnt find it at all babyish, though it was, as a result, a very quick and easy read. I voted very good.

I enjoyed this. It had depth, and as Claire said, surprises. Also it did n't play for melo-drama, which it could have done, and been the worse for it.

I enjoyed it as well....more of a novella than a novel, it's so short, but charming....I'd have enjoyed a sequel that continued the story! I loved the way her dad took the sneaking off to market caper, saying that its what he would have done as a boy

I also enjoyed the book. As Susanb says a sequel would have been nice. I enjoyed the surprise regarding the step mother did not see that coming.
Happy New Year everybody x
