Frowning for Crin-blanc (The wild white Stallion). I suppose it is hard to retrofit a good book from what is a very visual film and what may have been a very visually beautiful art house type film make a pretty bleak children’s book. At least it was short but the French passion for Elegant variation means I know more French words for marshy ground than I will ever need again.
On the plus side I feel very happy to have completed this time despite struggling with a couple. I feel I am beginning to get beyond revisiting childhood reads. Most I enjoyed and I am a bit torn over Star read. I think it has to be my one reread, We couldn’t leave Dinah, which is an excellent children’s book made all the more impressive by the time it was written when the future was very uncertain and yet is quite sophisticated in showing that an enemy general for horrific regime can be a doting grandfather and that the choices that have to be made are far from easy.
However, I am so glad I have discovered the Woodbury books through Pony Club trek. They are really well done and have corrected my impression that Josephine’s later work was weaker - wasn’t wowed by theMoor books I have read so far. I love them and wish she had written more.

Well done in finishing Ginslinger. I found Crin Blanc (though I read the English language version - my French isn't that good!) pretty bleak and depressing for a children's story too, although I must say it was a first class translation from French.
Darkhorse - forgot to ask did you pick a Star Read?
I'm waiting for my final 2 books to arrive before I can complete the challenge. Hoping to finish, if not quite by the end of September, not long after. If anyone else is worried they may not finish by the end of Sept 'deadline' then don't worry as it's not exactly set in stone. I'd rather you finished a few days later than thinking you had failed the challenge.

Well done everyone. I think I'm going to give STAR READ to my modern book, GALLOPING ACROSS THE CORNISH SUMMER.

Is Crin-Blanc the one starring Mark Lester? Egads, that one is as traumatizing as The Red Pony. Bleak. Hopeless.
ETA:. Oh, no, it looks like Crin Blanc is different but perhaps equally as soul sapping as Run Wild, Run Free??
What was supposed to be so enlightening and inspiring about these untamed boys and untamed horses coming together and paying the ultimate price?

I have finally finished my final book A Rosette For Royal. Really enjoyed it so would give it a SMILEY face.
Since the challenge is finishing soon I won't be adding any more books. Now that I have finished the challenge then I have to think about my star read.

Thinking about it I will make Silver Eagle Carries On by Primrose Cumming as my star read.

If anyone would like a rosette then feel free to pm me your address. There may be a delay getting the rosettes out (mainly because I have to buy more envelopes) but don't worry I will send everyone's out. Unlike last year I can't guarantee that everyone will get a horsey card but everyone will get a card.
If you sent me your address last year then I will have it just let me know either by pm or here if it's the same. If you have moved please tell me your new one. If for some reason you don't feel comfortable giving out your address/dont want a rosette again let me know here (this is to make sure that I don't forget you!). If I have received your pm then I will reply.
Finally if anyone is under the age of 16 please ask your parents/guardians permission if it's ok to give your address out (don't want irate parents!).

Have mental image of cliched French intellectuals smoking gauloise and discussing existentialism and freedom but as a child friendly tale it sucks. There is a place for exposing children to the harshness of life and a time for protecting them but don’t pin a magic island on a brutally bleak ending. Meh

THANKS very much Garej, my lovely rosette arrived today - nice surprise after coming home from the dentist - I chickened out of treatment as I have lost my nerve with dentists totally after a couple of nasty experiences, I am just going to only eating food that doesn't need chewing!!

PS re the Run Wild Run Free book, I can never remember whether it was the book of the film or vice versa - but if you think the book is bad - you should see the film! Think 'Hound of th e Baskervilles' made with the local trekking centre!!

Well done in finishing Garej. Yes I would love a rosette please if you have time to post it. My address is the same as last year.
Sorry to hear about your Dad Trixiepony. My dad had kidney stones a few years back which he said were very painful, I think gallstones are similar. Hope he gets better and feels better soon!
Well I'm hoping to finish off by the end of the week. I'm about two thirds through Dinah which I am really enjoying. I'm also trying to fit in a book of short ghostly pony stories which I am reviewing.

Thank you for my lovely rosettes. I didn’t expect them quite yet being in what is often classed a remote area. I don’t know I ever got 2 rosettes in one day before.

Really sorry to hear about your dad Trixie, I hope he gets well soon x
Well I've finally finished. My Star read is going to be Wild Horse Island, even though Curtains was my favourite it's a non-pony, and I've read it many times before.
Haffy - shall I put you down for a frowny for not able to finish The Earth Sings so you can complete the challenge and get your 'trophy' ?
Tintin - how are you getting on with your last books?
I'm doing an update now and then one last one in a few days time if needed. After that I'm afraid I'll have to wrap it up as must move on to other things.

Thanks Claire, probably for the best! I will try again at some point but keep getting side tracked, i've just read the first animal ark 'adult' book as it was a freebie and a couple of Kim Ablon Witneys, also freebies, when i should have tackled that instead!
Star read is hard, i love the Eventers Trilogy and Black loch but as they were not new reads i'll give it to Look before you leap, despite the ending with A filly for Melinda and headed for the win right up there too.
