Sorry you're under the weather, Claire....feel better soon!! Having trouble with the last book on my list....I don't seem to be in a cat mood.....would it be awful if I switched to a dog book? I've got Dog on It by Spenser Quinn on my kindle....being able to read on the road won't hurt either, the summer weekends are dwindling away BTW, I liked Pony from Tarella too....one of my favorite Aussie books....along with Good Luck to the Rider by Joan Phipson and Alison Lester's The Snow Pony

Tried a couple of more times to get on with Treasure to the East but still can't get on with it. So sadly a frowny face. Read about hald of Brown Sunshine of Sawdust Valley. Its nice enough tho not quite in the league of some of Marguerite Henry's better books. I like the fact its about a mule as not many mule books out there! Thanks susan and yes I'll be magnanimous lol and let you change the book, tho won't be able to change the title on webpage til next update. Have updated web page and smilies. Please check as usual. Also dont forget to nominate your favourite book when you have completed the challenge. summerreadingchallenge.ponymadbooklovers.co.uk/

Finished Brown Sunshine by Marguerite Henry. Nice little book aimed at slightly younger readers than the norm but not babyish. Not much of a plot but i learnt a lot about mules, the mule parades in USA and the King Mule who is crowned in the parade. Also stuff about special mule clips and all sorts of things! So a smiley for that.
BTW in the story the mule loses part of his tail and they put a false tail on him. I've been wracking my brains to think of which pony book someone puts a false tail on a pony at a show and it drops off. Can anyone remember...?

Claire I also enjoyed Brown Sunshine, loved the illustrations.
Claire can I be a pest and change my last book, Black Fury - Joseph Chipperfield? When I began to read I realized it needs a major spine repair, don't want to make it any worse.
I would like to read instead Topper - Pamela Macgregor-Morris
Thank you in advance

Thanks for everyone's well wishes Have changed your book choice brumby and updated everything. I'm impressed with everyone's progress this year. I think most of us are well ahead of schedule. Haffy don't forget we started a bit late so the end date will be into September and I can also extend it if anyone needs more time (tho it'll probs be me that does lol!) I wonder if the false tail incident was in one of Caroline Akrill's books - it sounds like the sort of incident which appears in her stories. I hope someone knows as its bugging me!

Isn't there something like that in one of the Georgie books? I don't like them so haven't got any to check - but didn't the goat eat it or something like that???

It could be, seems to ring a faint bell somewhere in the dark recesses of my brain. But I haven't got the time or inclination to go through the whole series and check lol. Wish my memory wasn't so shocking! We'll just have to wait for confirmation from someone who still has a few working brain cells!

Sorry forgot to tell you my star read! Assuming I am only allowed one, I will have to choose Pony from Tarella, this was a book I couldn't wait to get home each day to read some more.

I'm reading last book on my list now, Dog On It....about a quarter of the way through and enjoying it, so I'm sure I'll finish my list this year, but it may be a race to the deadline....at 303 pages, this mystery is the longest of the books on my challenge list

Finished Dog On It, and that's me done! Neutral face, please, Claire. It started off well, but the doggie point of view got really old really fast Star read....I shock myself, but it's Summer at Horseshoe Ranch by Eleanor Hoffmann. It's shocking because I've not even been able to get through her Tall Stallion yet!

Star read is quite hard, I love Treasure To the east but was surprised by how much i enjoyed Appaloosa Summer too.

Smiley for Not Such a Bad Summer. Not quite as good as Lucky Purchase or Clear Round but a nice easy shortish read. It is pretty cliche-ridden as a bunch of children on their hols in Dartmoor determine to find an escaped convict. However I feel the author is a little tongue-in-cheek about this. One of the characters says "children, except in books, never do have adventures when they're on holiday." There are gypsies but once again the author seems to be poking fun at the gypsy horse stealing cliche as the gypsies in this story are very nice. Even the adventure with the criminal is given a slight twist. So it is a cut above the usual story of this kind. Sadly there were no illustrations except for a frontispiece.

Pleased and surprised to say I'm getting on very well with "Mr Sponge's Sporting Tour" My previous foray's into pre-1914 horse literature not being very happy ones. In my opinion Surtees is a much better writer than the others. I am delighted the horses have names and characters, although it has to be said not particularly well adjusted ones so far...

Good going Tintin I haven't tackled much in the way of pre-1914 horse literature. I must say I struggle with some of the 1930s stuff!
I'm now reading Dark Lantern by Viola Bayley. Pretty good but more on it when I have finished. I am not sure why I haven't got it on my list. Must have deleted it at some point.

Finished The Dark Lantern and its a smiley. Its a non-pony childrens mystery story and the first book I've read by Viola Bayley. The main reason I read it was cos the book is extremely rare and its probably the only chance I'd get. I did enjoy it, well written and quite entertaining altho the mystery was pretty easily solved. I wouldn't put her with my favourite authors but I'd probably read another one of hers if one came into my hands.
Have updated smilies will not be able to do any more updates for a week as going away on hols. Will still have internet this time tho!

Hi folks sorry not around much. Did have net while away but it was very slow and I was usually too tired on a night to go on laptop much. (It was a walking type holiday!). Will update everyone's webpages tomorrow. I know we are past the official deadline but if anyone still has books to finish just take however long you need. Or let me know if you decide not to finish any stragglers lol.
