Spoiler alertI loved this from start to finish. Lots of humour, the bit where Lindsey and Peter are playing the harmonium in the Mission Hall had me giggling and there's even a gypsy woman which is a humorous part and didn't have me groaning "oh not that old clichΓ© again!" I was totally engrossed in the rush to get the harvest in before the rain totally spoilt the lot. And poor Toddy the fox being accused of killing villagers chickens. You just new it wasn't him really and the strange footwear the gypsy woman wore with the fox pad on the bottom sounded a teeny bit far fetched but you never know it might just have happened There's not much horse action at all in this one but the ponies do play their part..along with the pesky evil-eye goose ;D I've given it Gold Cup.

Oh dear, altho I love Monica Edwards books generally this is perhaps my least favourite of the series. All that harvest stuff just gets a bit monotonous to me and my usually smallish bugbear about Dion's quite selfish notion that everyone should sacrifice their own interests to help him with his farming project assumes much larger proportions in this one. Also I guess I am more interested in the animal side of farming than the crop side of things.
I did like the Toddy bits and its well written as always so I've given it a good.

I remember you saying you didn't like this one as much as the others Claire and I thought maybe I wouldn't either so I was pleasantly surprised how much I enjoyed it. I do like all farming stories though.
