Hi again. Here are some suggestions for the next book we do:
Elinore Havers - Dream Pony Monica Dickens - Cobbler's Dream Elyne Mitchell - the Silver Brumby Gillian Baxter - Pantomime Ponies ( if we do this one I have a couple of spare copies I can give to anyone who needs them)
If anyone has a preferance let me know otherwise I will just pick one of them and hope someone else joins in with me! ;D

I have Silver Brumby and, while I don't have Pantomime Ponies, it looks like it's available cheaply in the US, so I could do that. I'd thought that that series was for fairly young readers though, which is why I hadn't bothered to buy it...is there enough there for a book discussion?(Also...oops! on my part, obviously I don't have all of Gillian Baxter's pony books, I'd forgotten these completely!).
Would love to do Dream Pony, but its one of the Havers books I don't have and there aren't any copies in the US or in Canada at all....will have to add it to my birthday "wish list" :-) (Of her books I have Only One Pony and The Surprise Riding Club.....I KNOW I read Ponies Across the River, and now I can't find my copy...arggh!)

Well obviously I want Cobblers Dream as I have it and I'm reading it at the moment But susanb I can understand you not wanting to read it if you're not up for a weepy. It's a bit truthful about cruelty to horses in places So I'm going to take a leaf out of Zoe's book and become easy ;D

Susan the 'pantomime ponies' series is for younger readers but I feel (and I am not alone) that it is some of her best work AND under-rated. Its probably less of a traditional pony series than her other books and focuses more on the characters and relationships, but it might be quite interesting to read and compare to some of her other works.
Pity you dont have Dream Pony, its perhaps her best one IMHO. Altho we maybe could do Only One Pony instead.... Aghh its taking us more time to decide on a book than actually discuss it! ;D I think next time I'll just make an executive decision and pick one!!!

Claire....that's great to know about Gillian Baxter's Pantomime Ponies series...I really love her work! I just went ahead and ordered a copy of the omnibus that was in the US (keep your fingers crossed for me that it really is still available...I've noticed some sellers don't delete their abe listings when they've sold the book through another venue...sigh). Anyway, if luck is with me, I'll have the book in time for the discussion, if that's the one that is chosen (grin...if not, I'll still have it to read on my own!)
Re Dream Pony...I know, it is a pity....I was under the assumption that this would be one of her better ones, so many people love it...ah well, someday!
rosie....re the cruelty in Cobbler's Dream...I know, I have read it in past! It is an excellent book, and not only did I keep it, I replaced my paperback with a first edition hardcover! As I said, I just don't feel up to a tissue soaking re-read at the moment, but don't let me stop anyone who wants to go for it....I can always pick up on the next reading circle read! (and I suppose I could join in the discussion to the extent that memory serves...it's been a year or so since I read it).

I can do any of them, although I haven't read Pantomime Ponies before as, like susanb, I was a bit put off by the fact it's for younger readers. Sorry, not much help in making a decision. I think you will have to choose Claire!

I'm going to put the fat in the fire with this one, I read it once, disliked it, and never read it again - so I will look it out and reread it more carefully!

Mysteryarab, yes its about 2 miniature ponies cant remember if they are shetlands or not. I am sure we can manage to rustle up a copy of it for you if you want to read it again. Kunuma, I think I probably enjoy the discussions where there are mixed views over books better than the ones we all love. I remember the discussion for Riding with the Lyntons was very interesting.

Hi all, just looking at the short-list of books suggested for the last reading circle book, and realised that Dream Pony by Elinore Havers was next on the list. Now I know that at least 4 people definitely have a copy of it,, and its on a couple of people's fav books lists, so does anyone fancy doing that as our next one? I am sure we can rustle up a copy for people that don't have one.

I don't have a copy of this, but I'm loathe to borrow one from anyone seeing as how Royal Mail decided to lose the last one I borrowed after I posted it on to someone else I'll see if I can borrow it from the library.
