Hello haffyfan.. My paperback copy doesn't seem to list who publised it except to say Armada publised it in 1981..Is this an abridged version.?

The pb has only minor admendments from the collins ed....just the monetry values and a tiny piece about saving some of her left over cash (not even a sentence).
The spitfire is about half the length...just to the point....and no frills...but she did not change the story only added to it and the ending is not altered/added to at all.

Yes, it is Jump to the Top i was talking about. I would love a pic of that copy some time...hint hint ;D
Quite odd to see a book that was actually added to rather than abridged. Wonder what the opposite to abridged is?
It must have been the same with Afraid to Ride, as the hb edition seems a lot longer than the spitfire one as well.

Yes forgot about first pony have read all the spitfires but they must have been expanded very carefully as the stories are all pretty much the same.
Thanks in advance for the pic!

Well its that time again folks. Time to choose our next book. Thought it may be easier to choose an author first then one of her/his books. I was thinking either K M Peyton or Judith Berrisford while we are still sticking to the 'old school' writers. Anyone has any preferances let me know.

I haven't got Blind Beauty but I do have Fly by night and The Team. I wouldn't mind doing a Judith Berrisford one either. Maybe one of the Pippa series if Claire is still sick of Jackie

Yes, forgot about the swallow books they're good but have been discussed at length in the review section so may be better to do something we havent reviewed yet. Unfortunately I cant find a copy of Blind beauty anywhere either tho I do have just about everything else K M Peyton! I would deffo say either Fly by Night or The Team or possibly both (!) as they follow on and it would be nice to follow the characters along. Thats if everyone has got them. Also they are probably her most famous pony books (Flambards series I count as non-pony apart from first in series).
Let me know if you agree with doing them both, or if anyone doesnt have copies of them or would prefer to do just one. If we do the two this will take us over the rest of summer then I thought we could have a little break from the reading circle (as I am probably going away) and when we start again could try some more modern authors.

mysteryarab I have got a really tatty copy of flybynight you could have. When I mean tatty I have just rescued it from the bin! Its actually part of a 3in1 with 2 other books which has dropped to bits but I can patch up the flybynight bit and send to you. Its not great but you could read it before it dropped to bits entirely. Unless someone else has a better spare copy you can have its yours - PM with your address if you want it. You MUST read it somehow its a real classic! Ditto you lot on howrse. In bed at mo with bad stomach, 2 cats and laptop (lol) and have just been on about 2 hours trying to get my latest stally to 100 blup. Talk about a labour of love. Makes me wonder what I did with my time before howrse

Hi zoe yes we were just having a little break from it. (Well, actually it was cos I was supposed to be going on holiday)
We can start up again if everyone is ready? Do you think we should try some modern ones for a change or continue with the old stuff?

Post by Buster on Nov 3, 2008 21:40:33 GMT 1
I prefer the classics tbh but a change would be good too, I dont mind! What does everyone else think?

OK been thinking what about as a special Christmassy treat doing the Noel and Henry series? Maybe we can also do the later pony club series she wrote afterwards and compare them....?
Let me know what you think everyone or if you have any other ideas.

Thats a wicked idea, I've just bought the Noel and Henry books, I can't believe I never read them as a kid! I've just been scan - reading them cos I was desperate to read them all but it would be a good chance to read them properly.
