I thoroughly enjoyed this book, one of the best "Career Novels" I've read. If you like farming stories then this is for you and there is a teeny bit of pony in it. Also a bit of romance at the end but Joan is definitely a career girl, preferring not to get married and be a housewife. Girl Power! ;D It's a great story explaining what farming life is like without being preachy or boring.

I really liked this one too, in fact more so than the companion (and more horsy) career novel Rennie Goes Riding. As I used to spend summers on a farm in my youth it brought back memories and I like the character of Joan too. I agree its nice she decides to concentrate on her career rather than get married, probably quite a radical move for the time it was written.
