I really enjoyed this second book in the Punch Bowl series. Still pony action in it and obviously a farming story so ticked all the boxes for me.
I have to agree with Shelley Edwards, Monica's Daughter who writes the preface, that maybe a satchel full of corn wouldn't really feed a whole heard of hungry deer! But it didn't spoil the story at all really.
I like the fact Tamzin from the Romney Marsh series is in this book even though she is really one and the same person as Lindsey (Shelley's alter egos)
Lovely black and white photos of the farm etc. again really brings it all to life. Super illustrations byCharles Tunncliffe too.

The cow part of the plot is rather unlikely, but its a good story and I like the way that the Punchbowl series begins to link with the Romney Marsh series - and old Jim even has a part to play in the proceedings! I think times must have changed a lot I'm sure children today wouldn't agonise over nicking a bit of corn to feed some wild deer the way Lynsey does!
The theme of Lynsey's love for nature versus the farming life comes to the fore in this one and reappears throughout the series.
Have you got the next one, Spirit of Punchbowl Farm, rosie? That's one of my favourites.

I thought so too, but apparently something like that actually did happen in bavaria according to Shelley Edwards and she said her mother would have been delighted if she'd known about it! Yes I've got the next one and the Wanderer.

Punchbowl Harvest is not my favourite - too much of the non-animal farming side in it!
