I'm going to do the original this afternoon, I've got so much worse at being able to watch animals 'suffering' that I've kept putting it off because of the sad bits! Perhaps it is just that you realise all life is precious more as you get older yourself? I know I have read more than once about people who used to hunt animals for sport who now have had a road to Damascus moment and work in conservation or take pictures of them instead.
I think we all knew that the old cowboy way of breaking horses was seriously flawed, even before Monty Roberts - but perhaps as adults we are more aware of the mental suffering inflicted.
So with great trepidation in case I don't love it as much as I did before - off to watch it!

Watched it!
Film makers take note - THAT is how to make a film of a book, not by stealing the title and attaching it to a load of cr*p!
From the opening titles where they honour the book and it's author, to the opening scenes where they chose some very photogenic horses and some stunning scenery - I was hooked. What a beautiful filly they chose for the starring role, even to the colour, I liked her so much I forgave them for a black Banner and a chestnut Rocket.
The characters are just how I imagined them, OK I could have done without the mouthy small girl - but the rest all fitted exactly. Ken was right too.
OK the poor mountain lion got it, but then he wasn't so much a cliche as the one who started the cliche, and of course, he was in the book! Loved the halter breaking scene - and congrats to the camerman who did the filming of Rocket and Flicka on the shores of the lake.
Didn't have to worry about not liking it anymore after all, I loved it!
Edited to add, America is SUCH a beautiful country, I do wish I could have visited 'ranch country' in real life!

Watched it! Film makers take note - THAT is how to make a film of a book, not by stealing the title and attaching it to a load of cr*p! ;D You're right really all they did was steal the name, I could maybe have forgiven the Ken to Katy sex change if they had at least attempted to replicate the plot and the atmosphere of the book. I agree the original film Flicka was a stunning colour - so puzzled as to why they had to change her to black in the later films. I didnt notice the colours of Rocket and Banner as I couldnt remember what colour they actually were in the book, but at least they were in the film, unlike the later attempt. Glad you enjoyed it Kunuma, at least if we can't find a book you like you've given the thumbs up to a film
