I found this book in a very chaotic local second hand bookshop where the paperbacks are piled up in so many piles you can hardly walk round. Quite a number of treasures can be found here, although the proprietor looks a little like a Worlock
This was a very nice and enjoyable read.
“Last Hope” is the middle book of a trilogy which concerns the Grace family Riding School which has to shut as its landlord is changing. There are three horses – Faith, Hope and Charity who must be found homes against the clock.
Hope is a sturdy, good tempered grey pony and is an excellent school master, but is perhaps not the most handsome beast in the stable. This makes it difficult to place her, but eventually all is sorted out.
The human characters are also quite convincing and the book introduces the problem of “sweet itch” very clearly.
An active enjoyable story with the horses at the centre of it. The author writes well and keeps your interest. You really warm to Hope and I am pleased to say there are two more books about her as the series has been extended to give each horse three books.
It is quite ironic that I saw the cover and thought, “what a charming, solid pony, I’ll bet that's some child’s best pal”. The picture is perhaps a little cuter than the horse in the book.
Cheery book that makes you want to read the others

I really like the Faith. Hope and Charity trilogy. The premise of the girl having to find good homes for her three beloved ponies is interesting and original. I know some people may have been put off reading the books by the whole Animal Ark thing as often these mega-long series are very hit and miss. But Lucy Daniels is I think the best of all the writers penning these sorts of series. The horse stories actually in the Animal Ark series itself are pretty decent too.
