If anyone has Kindle unlimited KM Peyton's all that glitters is available to borrow or whatever it is you actually get to do? Does anyone know - do the files get deleted after x amount of time as i would assume or do you acyually get to keep them, because if so for 7.99 a month i think you could just go download crazy and then cancel? Apparently you can't keep the books after you have cancelled your subscription and while you are a subscriber you can't have more than 10 e-books downloaded at the same time. I assume if you use the service on your PC that the e-books won't appear in an Kindle folder in your documents section like they do with titles you buy - if they did it would be relatively easy to transfer them into a different location/onto a memory stick etc. There is a free trial so it may be worth doing to see if there is any way round losing the books.

Hi all, have been updating the web page for USA author Anne Colver and found that one of her books is available to read on-line or download for free from Open Library. (You need to create an account but that is free and its worth it as you can read other books for free too) Anyhow the free book I'm talking about is Pluto, Brave Lippizaner Stallion it's set in Austria just after the 2nd WW and looks to be an interesting story and it's illustrated by Sam Savitt. I may do a review of it when I've read it myself or possibly we could do it for our next group read? Anyhow link below. Pluto by Anne Colver - read for free

Claire, I've got this book in hardcover...it's charming, but it's only 48 pages long....it's an early reader, not even a chapter book! It was part of Garrard's Famous Animal Stories series, as was Lynn Hall's Captain, Canada's Flying Pony

I've started to read it and enjoying it. Although it has a lot of pictures like a picture book I don't find the writing particularly simplified, it doesn't read like an early reader, although its obviously aimed at children, but then again so are most pony stories. The story and the writing reminds me a lot of Marguerite Henry's historical pony novels. Anyhow I'd defo recommend a read especially as it's free.
Oh Susan just to move off topic for a mo - why are Chapter Books so called? I've always wondered.

Hi all, I just want to mention Open Library, a website that gives free acesss to books (some can be read on-line, others you can download.) After finding that Pluto by Anne Colver (see above post) was available I thought I'd have a look and see what other horse and pony books were on - and the answer is loads! This includes older stuff as well as modern. I am in the process of trying to compile a list of everything and will get it posted here or on part of the website. Anyhow it's defo worth a look. You have to register first and if you want to download books you have to install Adobe digital editions which is an e-reader. Unfortunately it's a pretty poor one but the files won't open in anything else. It works on a library type system in which you borrow the books. You can have up to 5 out at one time. I'll put the link in below in case anyone else would like to try it: openlibrary.org/booksIf you do a search using the words 'horse' then another with 'pony' you will get a pretty long list of titles. If anyone does try it let me know how you get on!

Thank you for the link. I have had a look on the website and found quite a lot of horsey stories so I will probably register and have a go. Can you read them on a kindle?

You have to download the books in Adobe Digital Editions which is Adobe's e-reader. They can be downloaded as epub or pdf files which can be converted to mobi (kindle) files if you have the actual file. But I don't think you can access the files. They are probably stored on a server or something. Anyhow I will have a rootle around and see if there is a way to get at them but not holding out much hope.

Well after donning my computer nerd hat I have found out a way to read the books from Open Library on a kindle but a. it involves installing extra software and a bit of fiddling and b. it may be illegal! If you do read them on Adobe Editions its best to download them as an epub file rather than a pdf. The pdf is basically just a scan of the book's pages and looks pretty small on the screen if you are of the age when reading glasses beckon. Also they don't work very well on that particular e-reader. The epubs do have a few mistakes and typos but are much easier to read.

Just grabbed Pony Racer, thanks Claire! I just noticed your question from a few posts back re "chapter books" .... chapter books are books that are divided into chapters I know, very informative, right? Essentially they're when you've moved from early readers like....oooh, say Hamish by Joanna Cannan, to longer works, like Six Ponies by JPT.

Hmmm I somehow expected it to be more complicated than that! Lol. But I suppose early readers/easy readers don't normally have chapters when you think about it. Tho some do (wonder what THEY are called haha) I'm glad someone else managed to grab Pony Racer. Let me know what you think of it Susan when you get round to reading it that is! I like the fact the main character is a boy. In fact I like the whole ethos of Forelock Books.

There Must be Horses by Diana Kimpton - Ok so it's not completely free but at 99p or 99c in the USA, this is a steal. It's a really good read. (aimed at older children than her Pony Mad Princess series and completely different in tone also) I'll link to the Pony Mad Facebook page as it's got the Amazon link and a link to the review I did on the book a couple of years ago. Grab it quick because it goes back to normal price tomorrow. www.facebook.com/ponymadbooklovers/?fref=nf

Hi all, not free books this time but free magazines. I have found a site where you can sign up for a free trial to read a number of magazines on-line for free including 6 horsy ones: Horse and Rider, Your Horse, Horse and Hound and more, plus lots more. What's more you can read back copies of the mags too. (After the free trial it's a monthly subscription which is about £7 or £8 which I suppose is not bad considering there are 100s of mags to look at.) If anyone would like to try the free trial the link is below. Unlike many free trials you don't even have to add any card/payment details. gb.readly.com/

Further to the last post re. reading free horsy mags on-line. For anyone who is interested in horse comics/comic strips there are 2 new free to read publications (e-book/web only) : Lucky Horse Comic and Lucky Horse Magazine these contain comic strips, short stories and photo stories plus some non-fic articles, videos, etc. Even better they can be read for free via the magazine's own websites/app. You can view them on-line or download an app for your smartphone or tablet. You just need to register on the sites first. The mag is available in 5 languages, although I don't think English was the first language as the UK version has a few odd words ! Links to both websites below: www.luckyhorsemagazine.comluckyhorsecomics.com/

I have noticed that Horses, Divorces and Hissy Fits and One Good Turn are free today. They are both Forelock books. I now have all the Forelock ebooks now and I paid nothing for them.

Thanks for the updates Garej. I just got the Hissy Fits one lol.
I recently downloaded the kindle app for my iphone, did it for a laugh really as I thought it would be far too small, but I can actually read it quite well. And Amazon now delivers the books straight to the phone - great for when I'm stuck on a train or in doctor's waiting room, etc.

I have the app too but on android. I prefer a physical book myself but it's a good app. However I have only read 1 book on it - a non pony one about the Yorkshire Ripper. Wouldn't recommend it for bedtime reading though.
