7 Could be Special Delivery by Gillian Baxter, but that's about a donkey rather than a pony...do you count that as a pony book?

18 Penny Farthing by Richard Ball?
20 Crooked Colt by C.W. Anderson?
btw, somewhat off topic, my favorite "criminal" horse name is the "second lead" equine in The Crumb by Jean Slaughter Doty: Cat Burglar (the international level show jumper).

Yea, two out of three isn't bad.
18 Dollar Horse by Miriam Young (the pound is worth about 1.45 dollars right now, so a dollar is less than a pound...are you taking that into account? Or are you looking for an American answer that is less than a dollar?)

Taking a stab at 11 and 12: Two from Christina Pullein-Thompson's riding school trilogy: Open Gate can certainly lead to Empty Field!

When the dollar and gold rise, I get depressed....it means the economy is tanking again. Re the pound....just be happy the UK didn't go onto the Euro!!! Eeek!! Even if Greece doesn't default, it's not going to be all sunshine and lollipops ahead....

Yes, susan it is National Velvet. Rosie and exmoorfan, its annoying when you are going to say the answer and someone beats you to it while you are deliberating isn't it? Just goes to show you shouldn't prevaricate ;D I do try to include a mix of well-known and lesser known books when I do quizzes, its quite hard as some of us are die-hard collectors and know just about every pony book published whilst others are just getting back into it again.
