I just picked up a very old copy of this book by Eugene Lumbers. I have never actually read it before although I remember the tv series very well. There were a couple of scenes in the series which were not in the book. I remember Dee and Michael going to the big city and trying to stay at a motel because the sign said "Children stay free." Arguing with the manager who explained they had to be accompanied by an adult and Dee saying but it doesn't say so...none of that was in the book. Also I have no recollection of big brother Harry. I do vividly remember the operation on the foal, which was almost a whole episode of the tv series and a paragraph in the brook. My mother loved dr shows but she went green during the foal's op. I wonder if that particular show is still available or if it got lost. I remember Sally Conabere played Dee but have no idea which company made it.

That's very interesting Vera. I haven't read the book or seen the TV series. In fact I as under the impression the book was adapted from an ABC radio series. Done some googling and the TV series was produced by ABC in 1973. The book was written in 1969 and so it seems probable it was based on an earlier radio series. Altho I have found references to the radio series cannot find any definite information about it.

I got a copy of this several years ago in a job lot of mainly Australian themed/authored books. Sad to say I've never gotten round to reading it so interesting to hear a little history behind it.
